Edit Photos, Add Filters And Effects, And Do It All With A Free App On Your Mac

Friday, November 30, 2012 | Alexis Kayhill Posted In Cheap Mac Apps

ImageTricksLet me ask you a question. Have you been shopping recently? Is your budget stretched more than your holiday season waistline?

If there’s a little too much month left at the end of your money, then you need a Friday Freebie from the Mac360 Value Vixen™. All those effects and filters you’d like to see Apple put into iPhoto can be yours with this free Mac app.

Tricked Out Image Tricks

Leave it to me to add a little freeware to help you ease the holiday blues. Add ImageTricks to your Mac and trick out all those bland and boring photos.

Deep in Mac OS X’s bowels are some special graphic innards called Core Image filters, and Quartz Compositions.

ImageTricks uses both to give you more control over photo enhancements than you get in iPhoto.

As feature lists go, the usual suspects are all present and accounted for. There’s saturation, brightness, contrast, hue and more.

Images can be distorted with twirl, bump, pinch, and then stylized with mosaic, halftones, crystalize and others.

Take a look at what ImageTricks can do.

ImageTricks

Drop in a photo and click the Filters tab in the sidebar to bring out all the options. Select one or more options for customized effects.

ImageTricks contains over 80 Core Image effects and filters, almost three dozen Quartz Compositions, and over a dozen image generators, photo frames, and vector borders. Each.

There’s more than 70 unique masks you can apply to a photo, and each image can be exported to TIFF, JPG, PDF, PNG, and GIF, but over a dozen more file formats can be imported.

Add a photo or graphic and use the image generators to create an entirely original image, then adjust it all with controls for each generator.

iPhoto may be free, but it’s not as much fun to use as ImageTricks to enhance photos. There’s a Pro version with a price tag and more options, but the freeware version is priced right and more powerful than you might think.

Bills Are Due

Mac360's app reviews, news, and not-quite-award-winning commentary are supported by your kind attention to the nearby sponsoring overlords and their messages of desperation and doom. Visiting an aforementioned ad overlord today helps us pay for a daily supply of fries. When you help out by giving attention to any sponsor during today's visit we're able to avoid the dog catcher. Hence, we appreciate your brief visits to these necessary overlords.
