Tuesday, November 20, 2012 | Jack D. Miller Posted In Cheap Mac Apps

CollageItThe digital age has done wonders for personal photography. Who among the Mac faithful do not have 10 or 20 thousand photos stuffed into iPhoto?

Apple’s mostly free photo management app has a few useful tools to enhance photos, share photos, and export photos to movies or the web, but it’s missing the creative thrill that comes with a photo collage.

CollageIt With A Click

Creating a collage of photos back in the day was a frightful experience which required photos to be cut up and placed into a set frame size. Those days are gone.

A collage today is simple drag and drop and click using CollageIt Pro, an elegant Mac app which makes collages easier than using iPhoto.

Choose one of four basic collage styles. Mosaic, Grid, Center, Pile. CollageIt also includes over 30 collage templates so you won’t get bored with your creations.

Add photos one-by-one to a frame in the selected collage, or just grab a bunch of photos and drop them in CollageIt creates a collage automatically.

There’s even a button to create a random layout. Previewing a collage is handled in real time. Make a change, and it’s displayed instantly.

Collage Templates

Collages can also be customized by page size and backgrounds, as well as margin, rotation, and photo count.

CollageIt Controls

Add borders and shadows to each photo within a collage. Crop photos to fit within the frame space.

Collage Frames

Creating themed collages is actually a fun exercise.

What you’ll really like are the sharing options. Collages can be saved as JPEG, TIFF, BMP, PNG images and printed or shared via email.

The tools are simple to master and give you controls over layout, margins, space, borders, and more with simple sliders and buttons.

You can even up load exported collages to Facebook or Twitter.

There’s also an option to create custom Desktop wallpaper with a collage creation. This is nicely done and very inexpensive. If you’re a bargain hunter, there’s a free version of CollageIt to try out.

About Jack D. Miller

I work for a US technology company in Paris, France and switched from Windows PCs to the Mac 12 years ago. My wife said it would improve our marriage, give us more friends, and reduce stress. I guess that two out of three isn't bad.
