Use Your Phone To Shop For Groceries Until You Drop (with a 21st century list)

Wednesday, December 12, 2012 | Alexis Kayhill Posted In iOS Apps

Grocery iQWhat happens if you go to a grocery store without a list of what you need to buy? We all know the answer. We buy too much, and then forget to buy some of what we wanted to buy.

That old fashioned grocery store list can be a time and money saver so let’s bring it into the 21st century with a free app that minds your list items, scans and compares prices.

What’s Your Grocery IQ?

Here’s the deal in a nutshell. Grocery iQ is the iPhone (and iPad) app that manages your grocery store list and a whole lot more. In this case, more is less.

Grocery iQ is free. It’s a good app for lists and negates the need for a piece of paper list, but that’s not why you want to use it to shop.

Use it to shop before you begin shopping at the store. Search for millions of grocery store items. Add frequently purchased items to a list.

Here’s the killer feature to die for. Grocery iQ can use the iPhone’s camera to scan the barcodes of products on the shelves so you can compare prices.

Typing in grocery store list items is painful if you’re driving, toting kids around, or carrying purse, briefcase, or other packages (let alone pushing a shopping cart), so use the app’s voice recognition to speak and record your items.

One feature I love is the option to create your own aisles in Grocery iQ. No more wandering aimlessly back and forth across the store to find what you want.

Your iPhone tells you where to get what’s on your list.

Use Grocery iQ to search for free coupons while you’re in the store. Check out items details, including price and description, as well as custom packages, weights, quantity, and much more.

What does all this modern technology do that a few items scribbled on the back of an envelope cannot?

Please. Grocery iQ is what modern living is all about. Pencils? Notepad? Forgettaboutit.

Well, not quite.

There is just this teensy tiny little problem with Grocery iQ.

While most users love it, there are some hiccups and occasionally things don’t work so don’t throw away the pencil and notepad just yet.
