What If MacPaint Had Lived? Would It Be An iPhone App? Would It Be Paint My Cat?

Tuesday, December 11, 2012 | Jack D. Miller Posted In iOS Apps

Paint My CatMy Mac history may diminish a bit with age, but I’m old enough, and not quite senile enough to remember MacPaint.

It was the little graphic app that started it all, and in glorious black and white, no less. What if MacPaint had lived? What if Apple put MacPaint on the iPhone? I’m rather certain that an iPhone version of MacPaint would look and work like Paint My Cat.

Paint Cats For $2 (minus a penny)

The iPhone and iPad are loaded with thousands of drawing apps, painting apps, photo enhancement apps, any of which makes the original MacPaint look archaic.

Paint My Cat is an unusual but clever drawing-cum-painting app that isn’t necessarily relegated to the kindergarten crowd.

Anyone with an iPhone or iPad will love what Paint My Cat can do. It blends drawing and painting tools with what is known as Augmented Reality technology.

Paint My Cat works two ways. Use the painting tools to paint the artwork on screen. As you paint, or draw, the magic wand charges and transforms a picture from 2D to 3D.

Or, simply use the crayons, pencils, or markers to color special pages. Then, use the camera to drop a photo into the picture in an augmented reality production.

Paint My Cat

Create a cat then play with the cat in the onscreen playroom. Use your finger to tickle and stroke the cat, or dress him or her or it up with special accessories.

Paint My Cat Pens

MacPaint never looked this good and was never this robust.

Paint My Cat has 80 different colors and three brush sizes. The built-in visual effects make the characters come to life (that 3D effect is cool).

Paint My Cat Characters

Paint My Cat is as much game as it is drawing and painting tool.

The game portion can be customized with your own color scheme and character ideas. Each character can interact with objects in the room.

This is a good way for children to gain improved hand eye coordination, and enhance motor skill development.

The built-in animations guide is simple enough for non-readers to use. There are no distracting advertisements. The cat makes sounds, and everything you do onscreen is saved.

Bored? Start over by erasing everything. Paint My Cat is a fun addition for children. It’s not just a painting and drawing.

About Jack D. Miller

I work for a US technology company in Paris, France and switched from Windows PCs to the Mac 12 years ago. My wife said it would improve our marriage, give us more friends, and reduce stress. I guess that two out of three isn't bad.
