If I have a complaint about RSS readers for iPhone or Mac, it’s that they’re hard work.
First, we have to find an RSS subscription link, then cultivate and manage the feeds in an app. Flipboard showed us a new way to gorge ourselves on news, trends, and gossip. Here’s an app that brings back the fun of exploring to our curiosity gene.
Explore The World Your Way
It’s one thing to have an RSS reader bring everything right to your screen. It’s something else to let Flipboard do all the curating of news.
But it’s actually more fun to use the Rockmelt app and explore news, trends, gossip, and everything in between right from your iPhone or iPad.
This ad free application is a single source for searching and exploring what’s going on.
It searches news– just enter a search term and find what’s happening on popular magazines, blogs, and other newsworthy sites.
I like this. It’s different than Flipboard which isn’t much for search (someone else does the editing). But, like any good, modern app, it’s easy to share items with others.
Rockmelt excels at search; so much so that you can be notified of new, trending articles on the web.
Jesse and I love using Flipboard on the iPad (less so on the iPhone), but Rockmelt gets plenty of attention on both iPad and iPhone.
The many, many five star reviews for Rockmelt are well deserved. This news aggregator app is addictive.
Like Flipboard, you can personalize Rockmelt to match information to your tastes and needs. It’s image rich, and multi-media savvy, and a name dropper.
It features plenty name brand news and entertainment sources, but also has six buttons that make trending and sharing actually more fun than Flipboard.
Like, Want, or LOL, or Aww, or Hmm, or plain old WTF? are buttons for sharing your response to an article, photo, or site.
There’s no Mac version, and you’ll need to create an account to use Rockmelt, but both iPhone and iPad versions are more fun to explore than other more curated apps.
