How many different ways can Mac users launch apps? Plenty, and they’re easy. The Dock. A Menubar launcher.
Or, dig around in the Finder until you find the app then double-click. Launch specific apps when the Mac starts up. Is there an easier way? Yes. It takes a bit of thought to recognize the beauty of InerziaMode, the app that launches different, but it’s one you’ll like.
Click To Launch Apps (plural)
There’s really nothing wrong with the Dock. Love it or hate it, the Dock is at least flexible enough to get out of the way of power users but entice new users to click to launch an app.
The Dock has a few problems of its own. It’s easily organized, but the more apps added to the Dock the more crowded it becomes.
As those apps begin to shrink in size and become obscured by the sheer number of apps, many Mac users look to some other kind of app launcher.
Look at InerziaMode. This oddly named Mac app does something that is both unusual and welcome. In short, InerziaMode launches apps in groups. One click. Many apps.
Or, put another way, click once and just those apps you need for a single project or for the moment are launched, and nothing else.
Setting up app groups is easy, too.
Click the Plus button to create a new group of apps to launch in InerziaMode.
Add groups for specific projects or GTD (Getting Things Done) context, or simply time of the day.
Once you’ve set up a few usable groups, InerziaMode remains as a Menubar icon. Once click and you can launch multiple applications.
There’s no Dock icon to clutter up the place. InerziaMode runs as a background app. However, there’s more to the app than just launching other apps with click.
InerziaMode can also open documents, web pages, and launch a few useful actions. You control the execution order of each launch or action by dragging and moving them around.
Each mode is totally customized, easily launched with click, and just as easily stopped. Frequently used modes are visible in the Menubar pop down window.
This is actually a few useful application that helps to manage how other applications are used, and saves you a few minutes with each working session. Nicely done. Inexpensive. Simple to setup and use.
