I like to live on the wild side, but my wallet sometimes forces me to wait a bit. I think the increase in problems are the switch to a new chip requiring code for both the new chip and the old chips, and the introduction of other consumer hardware not computers that has certainly increased sales, but is stretching the engineering resources thin. I am confident Apple will fix the issues even if it means slowing down releases.

Are we ‘in the know’ folks expecting new MacBooks in September? My money is on a new version that mimics the look and feel of the MacBook Air, said look eventually finding its’ way into the MacBook Pro line, maybe an iPad, even a rounder, gentler version for the MacPro models.
Aluminum is in, for sure. So is the rounded, beveled look.
Yeah I think updates are coming soon. I would bet by end of September. I think the MBA will be a template for both new MB and MBP’s. Ultimately what matters though is what is on the inside. There is a new patent of Apples showing a multitouch tablet machine. It may very well be coming soon as well. I know a few people that would be happy about that. I would just be a bit worried about the price with a TS of that size. I am hearing of a rumored 9 Sept event.

Apple just announced a Special Event for next week, September 9th. “Let’s Rock” is the theme so it sounds more like an iPod line refresh than anything to do with new Macs.
I expect to see new MacBooks, maybe along the line of the MacBook Air with beveled edges, all aluminum enclosure.
Oh, iPad, wherefore art thou iPad (the Mac tablet for the rest of us)?
Still no regrets about not waiting. In fact, I just upgraded to 4GB of RAM; probably gonna put a 320GB HDD in it within the next couple months. I love this computer…I love looking at it, taking it places (I blogged our recent trip to Yellowstone with it, not sure if I mentioned that earlier), showing it to people, talking about it…the list goes on.
It will be interesting to see what pops up next week, though, that’s for sure. I’m thinking about getting my wife an iPod touch for her birthday in October, so this is fortuitous timing indeed!
That is what I always tell people. Buy it when you need it with no regrets. I do generally tell people not to buy if there is a know event coming soon (MWSF, WWDC, etc.) otherwise if you need one buy it and have no regrets.

I’ve done it both ways and haven’t had many problems either way. Buy newest version or buy something that’s been around awhile. They just work.
Still, I’m holding out for a MacBook clad in aluminum and looking like the svelte MacBook Air, which I would buy if it had a bigger hard drive or faster CPU.

This time I’m waiting.
I read somewhere that new MacBooks would be aluminum and shaped like the MacBook Air, which I think is a great looking machine. I’ll wait a few months to see what Apple does with the MacBook line.
Other than hard drives, no complaints about my Mac experience.
Yeah that is the rumor. Makes sense, especially with what it looks like the next nano will be. It seems rounded edges is in at Apple. I would guess the updates will be sooner rather than later, but it could be as loong as waiting until MWSF 09.
I’ve bought the latest and greatest, and bought tried and true. Honestly, there’s not much difference between them. Even models which have been around awhile have problems, usually different than the newest machine, but problems nevertheless.
That’s been my experience, too. Sometimes I get the latest, sometimes I wait awhile. Either way it’s worked out OK. Some newer machines cause grief, but so do machines that have been around awhile.
What’s the oldest Mac you’ve ever used?
I have a PowerMac G5 that’s just over four years old and runs Leopard better than Panther.
Is this a trick question? Oldest mac I have ever used is an old 512K mac…Oldest I have used relatively recently is my old 7100. Right now I am using a 17” PB that is from 2003. I have an old tower G$ as well from 1999. Old is good. They all still run fine.
That photo looks like its a current MBP actually. Reading the text would indicate that to be the case as well (with the bits about the ports. I have no doubt they are coming, and redesigned…just a matter of when.

I’m waiting, too. I read that “the Brick” is some kind of new aluminum manufacturing process that Apple will use for the new MacBooks.
I love the MacBook Air but it’s just too small and underpowered.
