We’re here. Sometimes.

Traffic to our servers is usually heavy during Macworld, and this year has been no exception. Except for one thing. Axiotron is hosted on the same server as Mac360 and their site was pounded by very, very heavy traffic Tuesday and Wednesday, following the announcement of their new ModBooks.

We’ve experienced a few DIGG hits, a couple of SlashDot effects and never had a server problem—until now. The heavy load of Axiotron’s traffic brought the server, a fully loaded Apple Xserve beast, to a near screeching halt for much of the past two days. It’s better now, but there’s no telling how long it will last.

Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for your patience. Details to come.

Aloha…

I tried to login half a dozen times today and could not get through the login page. The rest of the time the site was up for awhile, but slow, then down and not accessible at all.

Bummers.

I had one time when I couldn’t load it…I had forgotten about it at the time. It is an unfortunate reality of the web…it doesn’t necessarily have 100% uptime…

I would be interested to know, Ron, if Server Logisitics “uptime” is decent compared to other hosts you’ve used? If I remember correctly, you also once ran Mac360 out of a server in your home. How does the “uptime” compare at home vs. a qualified host?

Just noticed that Alex is running Mac360 on Twitter. Ron, too. That’s great news.

Now there’s no excuse for a lack of updates, right?

Huge waste of time, that Twitter. It’s like listening to thousands of one person conversations, one sentence at a time. Someone has to ask, “Why?”

We’re still here. Alex has the flu, I’m recovering from eye surgery, and my first project was to set up a new ad server so pages will load a little quicker. All this is part of the Mac360 redesign, which is coming along. Slowly. I’ve asked Bambi to help out with some articles over the next few weeks until Alex is back. Thanks for your patience.

Wassup with Twitter? I know plenty of people use it but for what? Gossip? Spur of the moment thinking? It’s shameful and a waste of time.

Lots of people use it, Jack. Think of it as a way to IM everyone at the same time and not having to sit at the keyboard and wait for a response. That’s handy. News travels fast, but faster on Twitter.

Am I the only one to notice that Mac360 is no longer running on a Mac?
