Check This.

Maybe it was a screenshot taken from an HP tablet, but very interesting… maybe even telling…  Apple should be proud.

Me, too. MS makes goofies like that on a regularly basis. It’d be embarassing to Mr. Gates if he didn’t have so much money. Or if he cared. Or if his company wasn’t a criminal company.

The O.J. Simpson of operating systems. Getting away with murder?

Hold on… I think that’s a little over the line.

Microsoft isn’t any more “criminal” than Apple in my books.  Let me know when Apple decides to let other companies play protected AAC files with their software/hardware.

Both companies are in the business of making money, and they have both done well.

However… I don’t think Mr. Gates goes about making as many snide remarks on their competition as Mr. Jobs…  I’ve never understood how Jobs can make some slams on Microsoft, (the du jour over the past year seems to be the release of Longhorn), the MacOS posters again, slamming the release of Longhorn, then turn the other way, and invite Microsoft up on stage, proclaiming what a great relationship they have with Microsoft and the great Microsoft Office product.

When was the last time Microsoft publicly slammed IBM, Intel or AMD?

That didn’t appear to be about slamming or rhetoric, it’s about facts. Microsoft is a convicted, criminal company. Dragged to court. Lost. They pay fines to settle. Not just greivances about patents or trademarks, but illegal activities, too. US. Europe. Elsewhere.

That’s a big difference between playing hard-nosed business and actually breaking the law and being convicted.

Severity aside, how is this different from Apple?  They mainly try to settle out of court over faults in programs/hardware, illegal use of artist’s works, or breaking copyrights.  I have absolutely no doubt given Apple had the larger market share during the OS/2 debacle, they would apply similar practices to keep competition at bay, if they had the opportunity to pass similar agreements with vendors.

I just can’t justify fingerpointing specifically at Microsoft as Apple has had their own share of legal woes.  No matter whom is more wrong than the other, I’m sure there are some lawyers on both sides who should spend a few years in the klink.

By the way, though not technically a criminal offense, I think having to pay $4332 (CDN) for a dual 2.7Ghz machine with only $90 worth of RAM, a $200 video card and a $150 HD should be some sort of crime.

And exactly how much did the processors, motherboard, case, powersupply, production costs, shipping, and support cost Apple?  How is it a crime for them to charge the price for a product that you were obviously willing to pay.

Microsoft, has been convicted of using monopoly power.  That makes them a criminal.  I will never understand why people continue to make excuses for Microsoft….  it’s like a battered spouse saying that the person who beat the crap out of them “just does it because they love me!”

I’m surprised I didn’t see this one earlier. Apple hasn’t been convicted as a criminal company. Microsoft has.

Applying legal practices to keep competition at bay is standard industry practice. Microsoft went waaaaaay beyond that. Apple buying up all the flash memory so competition cannot is a good business move; not illegal.

Microsoft forcing vendors to pay a license on products shipped without Windows was determined to be an abuse of a monopoly position, therefore, criminal.

All successful companies have their share of legal woes. There’s always someone out there who wants a piece of their pie. The line is drawn when the ‘someone out there’ reads as a Who’s Who list of governments, government agencies, the European Union, and so on. Big difference, though one would expect that from a Windows apologist.

And how is that a crime? What’s illegal? Who is being harmed except Windows users who don’t know any better than to pay low cash for a machine that becomes high priced (consider all the add-ons to keep it running, the hours of ‘fixing’ required) in other ways.

Apple is in business to make a profit. They charge what the market will bear, pretty much the same as any company with any product. If a customer things that profit is criminal, then maybe they should check Microsoft’s balance sheet.

Is that criminal, or what?

I use Windows and Linux at work, a Mac, Windows and Linux at home.. if you think it makes me an apologist for pointing out that people shouldn’t throw stones in glass houses, I’d suggest to go easy on the Kool-Aid.  I think we’ve seen governments push for the utilization of open source software, and are quite often against companies of Microsoft’s size.

???  Tongue in cheek crime.  No one is being harmed.  Someone is being ripped off for what you get.

I know what I do with my machines running many different flavors of software/hardware.  Coincidentally, no additional cost for add-ons for Windows/Linux, and since February, I’ve spent well over 11 hours on the phone with Apple and ATI over a six month period convincing them that their MacMini video design was defective. (Underpowered, and underventilated card, not complying to DVI spec).  I haven’t had a single call in to Microsoft, or any other hardware vendor over the past 14 years, that I haven’t fix myself.  Coincidentally, Apple decided to settle with me, and though I can no longer say that Apple is at fault, many other users still continue to experience video issues.

Reading reports on iMac, iBook and PowerMac issues over the past year, I’d contend that design wise, Apple looks nice, but engineering wise, the machines aren’t necessarily a thing of engineering beauty till after a few revisions to fix their mistakes.

I’ve also spent countless hours fighting with patches shipped thru Software Update, which has rendered Quicktime 7.01 useless for MPEG audio playback, mucked up countless photos in iPhoto, and also rendered Tiger’s Spotlight useless after a day, until Apple advised I reinstall the OS.  Apparently QA is an afterthought.

The Mac platform is just as buggy as a cheap MS clone, or a high-priced Suse Linux server.

$4800 for $1000 worth of product is a bit ridiculous.  Price conscious PC shopper versus Mac nut, I’d give the better value, ROI, whatever you want to call it, to the Price conscious PC shopper.
That being said, the Mac is an acceptable platform as the others… if you can live with the bugs, and the price.

For selling so little in volume in comparison to Microsoft, their balance sheet is looking much “healthier” in comparison.

It’s hard to imagine why such an attitude infrequents a Mac site like this one. Looking for sympathy? Not here, fer sure. Looking to pick up girls? Hahahaha. Looking to pick a fight? Good ol’ Jeff, gawd rest his soul, did that often and he’s gone. How about contributing something worthwhile instead of stirring up the dust with everything you write? So you had a problem with an Apple product? Fix it and move on. To hear you tell it, the rest of us are stupid for buying Apple and you’re just here to warn us. What kind of a computer guy are you, anyway? You can’t even get an iPod fixed. My girl friend’s iPod croaked two weeks after buying it and started playing, not playing, playing, stopping, etc. Back to Apple; got it fixed. Life is good. And she can’t even spell Linux but she can get an iPod fixed. I’ve bought six iPods and given them away as hand-me-downs to kids and relatives. Four years later, even the original five gigger still works fine. You’re one of Apple’s ‘pimple customers.’ Irritating, not great to look at, but will soon ripen and go away.

One thing I’ve noticed more and more about Linux users is that they ‘whine’ about every little thing that costs more than $79. Windows users mostly whine about Windows. Mac users whine about the state of the world and then go do something about it.

??  Never had a problem with an iPod.  Good to see you spend the time to read posts…  But, I’ve had three, never had a big issue with them.  I’ve had issues with Apple Macintosh hardware not conforming to industry spec.

I started this thread, pointing out that Microsoft released a screenshot with iTunes being used.  That’s some pretty complimentary bit of insight.

My exception to a post here, was the inclusion that Microsoft should be put in a fugitive, law-breaking category.  Alright, some laws were broken, but please, give your head a favor, and don’t paint Apple with a different brush.

I for one frequent this site for insights in to software… though of late, the site seems to wander in to a rehash of Mac rumor sites, without offering any reviews of any particular hardware/software.

All in the last week. Looks normal to me, considering that half the Bambi and Tera duo are not here. What was it you contributed? Besides the moaning and groaning?

XM:
I was reading that story this morning… too bad I don’t have an AOL account.  It seems by the link, that others have had issues running the software.  I’ll pass.

Widgets:
Nothing new.  Go to http://www.dashboardwidgets.com for the latest/greatest.

Shutterbug:
No need.

Mac mini:
Isn’t this a rehash of an old (Pre-July) story?

Utilities:
Good to see these things come up again.  This is what I enjoy reading.  Kudos for this type of review… but there haven’t been too many of late.  I miss the old Bambi/Tera finds.

OK, lets see where to begin. First of all, thanks for posting the funny link showing that Microsoft(M$)‘s marketing department is either A-Made up of Mac users B-Blind C-Completely incompetent. I’ll go with incompetent since this is not even close to the first time something like this has happened.

You’ll have to understand John, this is a Mac centric forum/site. So, we take a bit of acceptation to someone taking pot shots at our favorite company. You see, we have a tendency to not like M$ a whole bunch, for many different reasons. The oldtimers feel that Billy Gates and company got away with one of the largest patent infringements ever when our favorite OS was hijacked by said company. The newer people, some of them are people who were users of M$ software and wanted an OS that didn’t have gigantic, gaping holes in it, thus allowing malicious content to take over their machine.

M$ was convicted of antitrust violations, but was givin a slap on the wrist and a kiss on the a$$ by George Bush and company when they snuck into power. And while Apple has been sued a few times for various things, that is small beans compared to being convicted by the federal government. So, forgive us for feeling that M$ is a criminal company.

I see you brought out the philanthropy as far as proof that M$ is not a criminal company. I find it strange as to why Billy needs to promote how much he is giving away to charity… Seems like he is trying to atone for something.

I will not argue the fact that a Mac is more expensive machine, but if you compare the cost of ownership to a Wintel, you will find that the costs aren’t nearly as different as you make them out to be.

Finally, since you like namecalling and wit so much, “HELLO TROLLO” raspberry
