Is Apple Ready To Be The Games Console King?

GamesApple as the king of game consoles? Ridiculous, right? There’s Microsoft’s Xbox, Sony’s Play Station, Nintendo’s Wii whatever. Can Apple break into the games market?

Writer Aaron Ruby thinks iGames may be on Apple’s iHorizon in the future. It’s all in the Tojan horse strategy. Wait a minute. Doesn’t everyone have a Trojan horse strategy?

Isn’t that how Microsoft, and Sony, and Nintendo want to control the living room? Introduce a games console that hooks to the TV set, then funnel everything else through it, right?

How does Apple fit into that strategy? Oh, yes. I forgot. There’s that whole iPod, Front Row, Mac mini, iTV streaming video thing. There it is, smack in the center of the living room.

The only thing missing is, well, the games. Could Apple be using all the other pieces as a collective Trojan horse, just to introduce games?

Check it out. Aaron Ruby’s article in BusinessWeek Online says it’s possible, if not probable, because Apple has a couple of cool patents for hand held devices that act like, well, wireless games consoles.

That’s the question. Is Apple about to set the stage for a games console? I vote for gPod.
