Do You Twitter? Can You Twitter On Your Mac?

TwitterificMacs are the ultimate personal computer. High quality, high productivity.

So, how about using your Mac for the ultimate in ridiculous silly time-wasting activities? Twitter on your Mac—fad or future?

It was just a couple decades ago that the Mac stood at the center of desktop publishing and spawned a new generation of creative tools for expression.

The Mac survivied the turbulence of the internet years and the dot com bubble and subsequent burst to become a superb tool for personal publishing, thanks to blogging.

Today, a new generation of Mac and PC users have more tools than ever for expression and personal publishing thanks to online tools such as MySpace and Twitter?

While MySpace seems to attract a large body of small minds deeply embedded in their pre-pubescent and teenage years, and a smaller body of perverts chasing them, Twitter is stealing some show time.

Twitter? It’s all the rage, you know. Everyone’s doing it. Even Mac users. Go ahead, ask around. Do you know anyone who Twitters? Do you Twitter?

Twitter appears to be a social networking, micro-blogging service for those who have a great interest in minutiae of life, and a lack of interest in accomplishment and productivity.

Users get to send updates, similar to mini posts on a blog, up to 140 characters long, visa SMS, instant messaging, the Twitter website, or by using an application on your Mac—Twitterific.

When you make an update, to publish or “tweet” on Twitter, your message gets displayed on your profile page and delivered to others, ostensibly friends or family, who have signed up to receive your messages.

It’s sort of like walking through the day, all day, everyday, and saying, “Can you hear me now? I’m over here.” And telling everyone you know that you’re, well, over there.

For Mac users, one of the choice applications to Twitter is called Twitterific, by The Icon Factory.

Twitterific lets you read and publish tweets to the Twitter website. Setting up an account on Twitter is actually easier than the effort you’ll go through trying to figure out what to tell all your friends and family who read your posts.

In true Mac fashion, Twitterific is an elegant application, simple to get going, easy to use, highly informative—provided you don’t mind slogging your way through the tedium of mostly worthless information.

Oh? Oh, yeah, baby.

You, too, will be able to post such literary gems as, “I’m heading out for breakfast!” to “I saw that hot girl who works at Starbucks in Clayton.” Yes, Mac users actually do this? The single most productive personal computer in the history of man is relegated to producing an infinite variations of, “Can you hear me now?”

Twitterific is about all you need to tweet on your Twitter account so all your peeps will know what your life is truly like. To make your terribly inefficient activity more efficient, Twitterific comes with a bunch of keyboard shortcuts to speed up responses, send messages, reply to other tweets, and scan your tweets.

The Icon Factory designed Twitterific to take up little space on your Mac, residing quietly in the Mac’s menubar, not the Dock. Twitterific will let you know when new tweets have arrived, even using an audio notification system.

What’s not to like? Twitterific is the ultimate and most efficient Mac utility for the ultimate time-wasting activity. I twittered, therefore, I was.

Yes, I’m always using Twitter; I really love this. However, I haven’t tried using Twitter on mac yet. But after reading your post, I think I’m going to try it out…soon.
