Alright, it’s the cat’s meow when used between two Mac users, right? Unfortunately, too much of the rest of the world hasn’t figured out how to handle audio and video on their computer. Enter Skype and Ecamm’s Call Recorder. Arguably, Skype is the largest VoIP (voice over IP) solution in the world, with well over 100-million users. And Skype for Mac users works very well as an alternative to iChat. Even Skype video conferencing works well for Mac users. Enter Ecamm Technologies and a suite of handy utilities for Mac users. There’s iGlasses which improves the quality of the video from your Mac’s iSight camera. Conference Recorder records iChat audio and video conferences and saves them as QuickTime movies. Talk Back to Kate, Ron & the Mac360 staff jobaron says:
I have an eMac, using the last version of Tiger and have been using always the latest versions of Skype. I once tried an early version of Call Recorder but it caused serious sound distortions, so I deleted it.
After a complete deletion of all parts of Skype and a download and install of another copy, all’s well again with Skype. For me Call Recorder is now just another landmine on the Mac landscape to avoid! Other folks, other strokes - It may work for you, but not for me… — Posted on Sat Apr 26 at 12:26 am by jobaron

Strange. How about a little more detail. What kind of Mac? Which OS version? Which version of Skype? How did you uninstall it? Does sound work in other applications? Did you re-install Skype? Does iChat work (same technology)? So many questions, so few answers. I say that because I’ve used Call Recorder for about a year and it’s been flawless on my install of Skype. — Posted on Sat Apr 26 at 12:09 am by randy whitacre

I would be extremely careful with this: I installed it to try it out and immediately lost all possibility of talk via Skype! I hurried to uninstall it, but so far (after checking all audio inputs and outputs, a complete uninstall, repair with DiskWarrior, Disk Utility etc, etc) I still cannot carry on a voice conversation with my contacts! For me this utility addition is a disaster! — Posted on Fri Apr 25 at 11:38 pm by jobaron
