Hot Off The Presses: The Latest News From Mac360.

Motherhood is not all it’s cracked up to be. Despite the warnings from everyone who’s ever been a mother, I tried it anyway.

Now I’m ready for a vacation-- back to work at Mac360. At least part time, and at least a few months ahead of schedule.

Here’s the latest in news from everyone who used to work at Mac360, suddenly disappeared, and better return soon. This report includes whereabouts and rumors. Reader beware.

First, me. Motherhood actually started prior to giving birth back in April. There’s that morning sickness thing. Then the weight gain and hormone changes.

I’ve come to the conclusion that birth itself is an experience to avoid, except for that whole ”mankind would cease to exist” thing. Science being what it is these days, you’d think there’d be a better way.

I told Bambi and Tera that I’d be out for at least six months. Little did I know that they’d follow in my waddling footsteps, so here’s the skinny and the why and wherefore as to Mac360’s silent updates since Spring.

First, me. Again. It’s not that I don’t love my baby, but they just demand so much time.

It’s not like I wasn’t warned, but the handholding and coaching requirements are immense.

You’d think that babies were all Windows users. They don’t know anything.

After a couple of months, the best I can get The Little Kayhill™ to do is hold a Mighty Mouse. Forget pointing. Clicking seems to be a pipedream for two and a half month olds.

Drool does roll off Apple’s mouse quite well. I can only imagine the damage it would cause to a two button mouse with a scroll wheel.

So, in short, I’m baaaaaack-- partly because I need the rest and relaxation that writing for Mac360 provides when compared to motherhood, and partly because, well, ”where’d everybody go?”

That seems to be the question of the month for current and former Mac360 readers. At least I have a good excuse.

Well, so does Tera. News from Patricksland in Los Angeles is not so good, but, as Tera says, ”the story’s not over yet.” I talked with her a few times this week and I can report that she’s alert and somewhat stronger than a few months ago, though the prognosis is not promising.

She’s also complaining about things so maybe that’s a good sign.

Bambi has been on the road for nearly a month on some kind of extended public relations campaign with clients in Japan, Australia, Hong Kong, and maybe China. I forget the details.

She’s blonde so she flies first class. Mostly. Besides, with her appetite she doesn’t really fit into coach seats anymore.

Jack and Carol are supposed to arrive back in the US next week from their summer bicycling tour in France and the netherlands of Europe. I got postcards and two email messages and not one of the promised articles about laptopping across Europe.

They owe me big time.

Kudos to our guest writers, Tom, Jeff, and Michael, though the strains of writing regularly and receiving instant feedback from readers with differing opinions seemed to take a toll.

Hello? Guys? Are you still out there?

My promise is simple-- something new each weekday until everyone’s back at the keyboard. Just be prepared for baby stories and descriptions of child birth (grad your upper lip with both hands and pull it up over the top of your head-- while breathing in some sort of strange synchronized sequence).

Off Topic #58 - Do politicians use personal computers? Of course. We’ve heard Barack Obama prefers a Mac, while Hillary Clinton uses a Dell, though, apparently neither of the candidates can bowl. Does Obama’s potential vice president use a Mac? Even Clinton acknowledges Apple’s brand power but says she can’t afford a Mac. Maybe she’d win if she used a Mac.
