The internet is rapidly becoming the place where we go for music and videos, whether MP3 files or YouTube. Audio and video seem to be on every other web page. How can Mac users download, collect, convert, and save all those music and video files?
The Mac must have a dozen or two utilities that do just that; some good, some easy, some neither. Teachers in our school like to pull files from web pages to use in the classroom. Of all the tools available to gather and save audio and video files, the easiest to use is iTubeX Ultimate.
All kinds of audio and video files are embedded into web pages these days. That means they’re already in your browser when you visit the page, so downloading should be easy, right?
Not quite. Just because you can see a video in a web page doesn’t make it easy to download to your Mac.
That’s what makes iTubeX Ultimate a Mac user’s friend. One click to download and save. The whole process needs to be simple and straightforward, not convoluted and complex.
If you’re a Mac power user you may want more features than come with iTubeX Ultimate. It’s basic, yes, but has the basic features most of us need to find videos online, and download them to our Macs.
For example, on start up, iTubeX opens what looks like a browser window to YouTube’s home page. Safari’s WebKit rendering engine is built in to iTubeX so you can browse from site to site.
Unfortunately, you don’t have access to your Safari bookmarks. That’s OK, because iTubeX has a feature to open whatever URL is open in Safari with a single click. Find a video or audio file on the web page, click on it, then click the Download button.
iTubeX keeps a history of pages you’ve visited, which can be deleted at any time. Other features include Google translation, open the current URL in Safari, convert a file to another file type, and, importantly, Watch YouTube Video at Highest Quality.
That ensures you’ll have the best quality video to download or convert.
iTubeX Ultimate will save your audio and video files wherever you want on your Mac; Downloads folder, Documents folder, wherever. One click.
The iTubeX browser window is minimalist, but obvious. There’s Forward and Backward buttons, a Download button, a Refresh button (similar to that in Safari), and an Options button, which displays the limited number of options.
The file conversion process (requires a QuickTime plugin download) lets you take a downloaded video file and convert it for use on your iPhone or iPod. Not bad for a whopping $7.50 price tag, huh?
iTubeX Ultimate is one of many Mac utilities for pulling audio and video off the web. It’s fast, easy to use, navigates quickly, converts files, and downloads wherever you want.
