How To Say “I Love You” 100 Ways On Your Mac.

We live in a multi-cultural, multi-language world, so how better to show your love to fellow man than using your Mac to say, “I Love You?”

Hey, Kid Rock and Pam Anderson are obviously not Mac users, right?

You’ll need The Love Translator Dashboard Widget, and some intestinal fortitude.

I can think of other ways for guys and gals to get into trouble, but this one could turn out to be loads of fun-- if it just did more than say ”I Love You.”

Dashboard Widgets are often One Hit Wonders. They do one thing and we wonder, ”What’s the big deal?”

That’s what The Love Translator does. It makes me wonder. For what it’s worth, it also works.

In true Mac simplicity and elegance, The Love Translator Widget allows you to select a country (and assumes a specific language for each), then displays the equivalent of “I Love You” in the native language, though written in English.

If there were 20 or 30 other phrases for similar tender moments, this Widget would be a big hit. As it is, it’s just barely enough to get you started.

Or slapped in the face. Your mileage may vary.

How does The Love Translator compare with Mac OS X’s Language translator Widget? It’s close. Enter ”I Love You” in English in the translator Widget, select French, and you get something close to what you’d get by selecting France in The Love Translator.

In fact, most of the I Love You translations were close, but not exactly the same as in Apple’s Mac OS X’s translator Widget. In love, maybe close is enough.

That’s about the best you can hope for in real life, right? Love is like horseshoes and hand grenades.

Spurred by the Mac’s utility for love, I checked on other Dashboard Widgets by entering ”Love” into Apple’s Seach Dashboard Widgets.

There’s the ”I Love Shopping” Widget for Amazon. Don’t use that one. Instead, shop at the Mac360 Store. It’s still Amazon, of course, but we get a commission on each sale, which we apply back to prizes for our latest Mac360 Contest.

Generally speaking, there wasn’t much ”love” in Apple’s Dashboard Widget search, so I tried “dating” instead. Whoa. Now we’re getting somewhere.

Right at the top is The Dating Widget which does what you expect and with photos.

Not far below that one is the WeatherBug Hurricane Watcher for developing storms. What does that have to do with love?

The PartnerMine Dashboard Widget does pretty much what you get from The Dating Widget.

Ditto for Match.com-- a simple front end Widget to the popular (so I’m told) dating web site.

Can your Mac be a useful tool to find true love? From Yahoo Personals to eHarmony, your Mac might be a good place to start, Dashboard Widgets not withstanding.

Off Topic #58 - Do politicians use personal computers? Of course. We’ve heard Barack Obama prefers a Mac, while Hillary Clinton uses a Dell, though, apparently neither of the candidates can bowl. Does Obama’s potential vice president use a Mac? Even Clinton acknowledges Apple’s brand power but says she can’t afford a Mac. Maybe she’d win if she used a Mac.
