“Is It Wrong To Love Microsoft?” Who Wants To?

If there’s anything to be learned from the ‘personal publishing’ revolution spawned by the Mac and LaserWriter printer back in the 80s, it’s that it could get worse.

With the Internet, anyone can publish anything they want, at any time. The only problem with that is that people do publish anything. For example, “Is It Wrong To Love Microsoft?”

Because we can publish what we think doesn’t mean we should. For example, an online magazine called CoolTechZone just published an article by Varun Dubey.

It’s entitled, “Is It Wrong To Love Microsoft?”

If everyone is entitled to an opinion should I not just leave that bait alone and go on about my way? Well, events of the past week have left me thinking, ‘What would Tera do?”

Tera would blast the idiotic reasoning in the article and disembowel all the vowels and consonants contained there in. Tera, baby, this one’s for you.

I don’t know author Varun Dubey, though I suspect the resemblance to the enclosed photo is possible. It’s the logic and argumentation of such a statement, no, wait. The LACK of appropriate logic and argumentation of such a statement that’s under question.

“Is It Wrong To Love Microsoft?”

First, the author states that “Microsoft is perhaps the most hated company in the history of business. Anointed with names such as the Redmond Giant, Microshaft, Microsloth, so on and so forth, the nicknames and jokes are perhaps exceeded only by the vengeance with which people hate it.”

So, he’s admitting up front that Microsoft is hated. No disagreement there. While I harbor no ill will towards Microsoft, they are, after all a criminal company; tried and convicted, more than once.

Here’s where the flame bait gets placed carefully before your unsuspecting eyes.

Dubey says, “I love Microsoft. Absolutely adore it and what’s more, I hate Linux. I think it’s the most over rated piece of software ever built and survives simply out of spite and not because it is terribly good at doing something because it is not!”

Hmmm. Where I come from, that’s bait. Don’t bite, Bambi. Don’t do it. Arrrrgggggh.

Sorry. I couldn’t help myself.

Adore Microsoft? Let’s examine lack of logic there. Microsoft is a criminal company. A convicted monopolist who abused other companies.

Some could argue that Adolf Hitler was the most hated leader in the history of the world. If so, would Dubey say, “I love Hitler. I adore him. Democracy is the most overrated government ever.” Would he say that? He could.

Wait. There’s more.

“Here is a company that single handedly created the market for Personal Computers, brought computing to ordinary folks like you and me…”“It has given us Windows, sure, it was buggy earlier and a lot of things didn’t work like they were supposed to (plug and play springs to mind) but it was a pioneering effort.” Uh, if I’m not mistaken, Windows was less a pioneering effort on Microsoft’s part, that it was a Watergate effort. They stole it.

How about security? Microsoft costs companies around the world billions of dollars as they try to protect themselves from the tens of thousands of viruses prevalent in the Windows world. Mac OS X? NO viruses. None. Nada. What does Dubey say…

“n a nutshell, it’s not so much as that the software is secure; it’s simply that no one is interested in spending sleepless nights writing a virus that won’t give them the satisfaction they get from causing havoc.”

“Considering the fact that everyone who knows how to write two bits of code dreams of hitting windows with a virus, the guys at the “Redmond Giant” are doing a spectacular job.”

Tera honey, puhleeeze don’t read this. Your hair will catch fire.

Finally, “Lets be fair and honest about this. Here is a company that single handedly created the market for Personal Computers, brought computing to ordinary folks like you and me, made it affordable by encouraging mass acceptance and constantly strives to provide us ease of use in every sphere it touches.”

I almost don’t know where to begin to reply. I’m nearly speechless. I need help from Forum posters.

Oh, obviously, I’m wrong about something else. I honestly did not think that Bill Gates had children and they were already in Middle School. Who knew they could write.

The fact that he has children scares me to death.

I don’t know much about stem cell research or cloning. I can name someone whose stem cells could be used for research. Should be used. The same person is NOT a candidate for cloning.
