Is Microsoft Out To Get Apple? No—Linux Users.

Microborg - AlexI’ve been out for a few weeks and had to catch up on all the latest Apple and Mac news.

What’s new is old. Is Microsoft being bad again? Yes. This time they want Linux users to cough up money for patent violations. True.

It isn’t enough that Microsoft has squandered billions on one unsuccessful product venture after another, or that Windows Vista is the single most dissed and avoided operating system since Windows ME.

It isn’t enough that Microsoft failed to squash Apple and the Mac, or failed to take seriously the success of the iPod Revolution. Now Microsoft is threatening to bring down the crown jewel of open source software—Linux? How?

Fortune magazine’s “Microsoft takes on the free world” pretty much says it all. Linux infringes on 235 Microsoft-owned patents and they want royalties from distributors and users.

Pretty much every company in the Fortune 500 uses Linux. It’s free. It works well. It’s steady and dependable. It’s not Microsoft.

What would happen if Linux were to collapse as an alternative to Microsoft’s domination? What does it mean for Apple and the Mac?

As to the former, it’s bad news for the whole world. However, Apple’s fake CEO, Fake Steve Jobs, thinks it is great news for Apple.

So far as Apple is concerned, the MicroTards of Redmond, and the Linux freetards can fight it out and scare the crap out of customers—many of which will run to the open arms of Apple, Inc—the Teflon coated company that makes iPods and Macs and soon, the iPhone.

It’s obvious that Microsoft has difficulty competing these days. Their cash cow isn’t dining as well as in years past, thanks to Vista’s poor reception, poor reviews, and poor experience.

Even the latest version of Microsoft Office isn’t meeting up with much hoopla. Xbox360 is a financial disaster, as is pretty much everything else Microsoft has touched outside of Windows and Office.

Meanwhile, everything a One Infinite Loop in Cupertino, CA is running on all cores, so to speak. Mac sales are up 30-percent. iPod sales cruise along. Everyone knows Tiger is better than Vista and Leopard will be even better.

Did I mention the iPhone? Microsoft’s attack on the Linux camp is great news for Apple, great news for the Mac, and good news for the millions of PC users who are about the make the switch—to Apple.

Of course, to be fair, there’s probably a middle ground in the coming battle of the titular titans. Microsoft has a deal already with Novell that indemnifies them over claims against Linux.

No mater. Once the proverbial crud hits the fan of public opinion and fear mongering, Apple need only sit back and enjoy riding the wave of prosperity. At least until Burst damns the success parade.
