Apple CEO Steve Jobs once laid Mac OS 9 to rest in a coffin during a keynote address. Can you say funeral? Still, perhaps many millions of Mac users are hooked on Mac OS 9 (or earlier versions) and haven’t made the jump to Apple’s Unix-flavored OS X, despite rave reviews, extra stability, and solid security.
What’s on your Mac? Which Mac OS do you use the most? Is it Panther or Jaguar? An earlier Mac OS X version? Or, are you still using an even earlier version of the popular Mac OS.
Which one is it? Mac OS 9.x? Mac OS 8.x? Do you go back as far as the mid-90s and Mac 7.x? What’s on your Mac?
Our latest reader poll should show a strong upward trend toward Mac OS X users? How do I know? Well, our web server logs indicate that Apple’s Safari web browser makes up about 60-percent of our readers, and Safari’s only available on Mac OS X. Still, many Mac users love Mac OS 9.
Most Macs work for many years longer than Windows PCs so Mac users are sometimes less inclined to upgrade right away, despite the strong sales of Jaguar and Panther. Of course, Panther gets the rave reviews and Tiger is waiting in the wings for an early 2005 release.
What’s surprising is so many Mac users still have an older version of Mac OS running just fine on their Macs
What’s your success rate with mac OS X? Love it? Ready to leave and long for the good old days?
