Mac Users Travel: Wi Fi Connections Rule.

Yes, there are some tasks best performed by a Windows PC, rather than a Mac. For example, using a virus utility yields more and faster results on a PC using Windows. It’s boring on a Mac running OS X, right?

This weeks commentary from Mac users focused on Windows. Overwhelmingly, Mac users are often forced to use Windows, too.

How do Mac users feel about that inconvenience? Read on. Mac user “coogan” summed up the military problems with computers this way…

“The Marine Corps recently went to an all Dell laptop PC environment as part of a deal they arranged with Dell.  So I still have to use Windows at work.

That was the positive news.

I have to say that the Dells and the Windows OS that drives them have combined for the single worst “computing experience” I have ever had to endure.  They crash frequently, are infernally slow, and I am now on my THIRD HD as the others have died unexpectedly, usually while I was working on something important.

Even our IT Marines can’t stand these PC’s now,  and I’ve talked one into buying a Mac for home use.”

While that was a near normal response of Mac users on Windows, there were a few who looked at the process differently. Mac user “pm0ptb” followed up with this commentary:

“I use Windows XP Pro at work, so I’m on it 8 hours a day during the work week. There are some things I like about it, but I prefer the Mac OS by a large margin. I’m actually building a PC right now to run XP for two reasons: I want to be able to test web sites in windows-based browsers, and I enjoy computers in general so expanding my scope by using other OS’s is always a good thing. Oh yeah, and there are some games I want to play on it now and then, and my Mac is relatively old to play any of the new stuff.”

For many Mac users, the Windows experience won’t go away too soon.

What about Tera’s Mac360 on Maui series? Well, despite the fact that most Mac users would like to be there, too, a few remember good experiences with high speed on Maui.

Mac user “esteutes” found the Westin to be spongeworthy in a high speed sense:

“We were at the Kaanapali Westin last July, and I had wifi all over their campus.  I hung out by the pool and read the NYTimes and watched my stocks on Ameritrade the whole week we were there.”

All in all, the holiday week was good for Mac users and Apple’s stock (and you, if you own stock) which topped $65.00 a share.
