Apple has hundreds of resellers throughout the US, but only a small number of national or regional chains. CompUSA is the most notable with it’s successful “store-within-a-store” model. Apple’s own retail stores are often in major, high-traffic shopping malls and number over 80 as of this writing.
Best Buy’s success has been ‘modest’ at best and you won’t find many Apple products other than the iPod at their retail outlets. Many Mac users complain that the Best Buy retail location is poor because employees do not know or understand Mac products.
Expect the same response at Office Depot.
Meanwhile, Apple’s retail stores continue to pack in the traffic. The Apple Stores are great showcases for the Mac, the iPod and many other products. More importantly, the staff at each retail store usually knows the Mac inside and out.
You won’t find much of that at CompUSA. Less of it at any other retail outlet other than a “Mac” store which specializes in Apple products.
Still, we wish Office Depot all the best.
