It’s one thing to know if it’s sunny or cloudy, cool or cold, warm or hot. Many Mac utilities give you quick access to the weather.
Seasonality becomes your weather center. It does everything but control the weather.
Carol did a recent article on Mac utilities which give you forecasts and conditions.
The range is from the free to near free and included menu bar apps, Dashboard Widgets, and in between.
Up more than a level or three is Seasonality, from Gaucho Software. Weather is different on the Seasonality planet.
Living in the Midwest means we take our weather seriously. Not only do we talk about it, we often pray about it.
Alexis is in San Diego. Does it ever rain there? Bambi’s in Las Vegas where hot is king.
Kate’s in New York. Yes, they have seasons, but not all of them in the same day.
That’s reserved for the Midwest.
So, weather’s important and Seasonality gives me a more than detailed look at the weather.
It’s not just a cloud and temperature.
Seasonality adds detailed weather forecasts, radar images, sunrise and sunset times, even a look at weather a week from now.
Radar images will show current and past weather. Historical data is also Seasonality’s weather forte, so you can compare this month to last month, this year to last year.
No location has a lock on weather. It’s everywhere.
Compare your weather with other locations; in the US or international.
Starting up Seasonality gets you local conditions right away, as it connects to the “Me” card in AddressBook.
Choose from over 34,000 weather locations in 202 different countries. The location sidebar can hold multiple locations.
Forecasts are usually five to seven days using different sources, including the National Weather Service in the US.
Seasonality’s approach is detail, not just a temperature and a graphic of current conditions.
Serious weather trackers can use their Mac to track weather for a given location over a given period of time. Most locations cover 96 hours, though some conditions can be tracked over a year.
The whole process is aimed toward the visual senses; slider bars, point and click, graphs, even satellite images from Nasa’s Blue Marble satellite image bank.
The folks at Gaucho update Seasonality regularly, and move between various weather services and conditions permit. Seasonality is affordable and gives you 30 days trial.
Most of us use a Widget or two for weather conditions and forecasts. Some use menu bar utilities? What’s your favorite “weather center” application for the Mac?
By the way, Mac360 gives daily Mac updates on Twitter. If you Twitter, give Mac360 a tweet. One more thing. Only the best Mac software gets reviewed on Ron's NoodleMac site. Check it out.
Off Topic Note: The latest Mac software updates and a special RSS feed are available on the NoodleMac site (certified Mac software reviews). Guess what? Kate Mac is back on her own site after her year long flirtation with Microsoft Windows. One more thing: Ron has gone solo with his new McSolo site.
