OS X vs. Windows Vista: What Leopard Needs.

How does Windows Vista compare to Mac OS X Tiger? According to one video analysis, they’re totally different.

What’s Mac OS X Leopard need? The list grows longer by the day. Will Apple respond to Mac user requests?

Probably not, but that doesn’t stop the latest list of 15 Things Apple Should Change In Mac OS X.

David Pogue, writing for The New York Times, says, “Windows Vista is beautiful. Microsoft has never taken elegance so seriously before.”

Hmmmm. What’s wrong with this picture? Pogue is basically a Mac guy, and knows exactly where to compare Mac OS X with Windows Vista. The look and feel of Microsoft’s latest OS is summed up in typical fashion by a Mac user:

Feature after feature in Windows Vista is outlined, disected, and explained in Pogue’s unscathing review. You get the impression that his first impression of Vista is a good one.

Did Microsoft heist a few features from Mac OS X Tiger? Not just a few. How about lock, stock, and barrel.

Get ready for the real fun. On This Page Pogue presents a video which outlines the major differences between Mac OS X and Windows Vista, categorically denying that Microsoft copied certain features from Apple.

Assume that much of what makes up Windows Vista came from OS X Tiger.

So, where does that leave Mac OS X Leopard?

From the buzz circulating on the web, OS X Tiger has plenty of things that need to be fixed in Leopard.

I’ve got a few of my own to add to the Computerworld list of the 15 Things Apple Should Change In Mac OS X.

On my list there’s a couple of basic items. For one, Platinum Plastic or Brushed Aluminum. Make up your mind already. Psssst. Apple, go with Platinum Plastic.

There’s some good ones on the Computerworld list. For example, Widgets Can’t Be Placed on the Desktop. That’s a hot item. I’d ask for Widgets to be free standing, too.

The Dock. Please fix the Dock. Yes, it’s fine if you don’t have a Mac cluttered with applications and utilities. The Dock needs multiple Docks or easier ways to find those utilities that are essential but don’t get used much.

As it is, if you’re loaded with applications and utilities and documents, you need to have a 30-inch Apple Cinema Display to be able to fit everything onto the Dock. Hmmmm. Maybe that’s by design…

Then there’s the Finder. Don’t get me started. Move on. There’s too much to see here. Regardless, it’s discussion time.
