Revealed: What Mac Users Like To Read About Macs.

SteveWhen it comes to Macs, what do Mac users prefer to read about? Macs, of course. Microsoft bashing? Sometimes. But that’s not in the Top 10 List. Secrets and rumors? Yes. Again, not in the Top 10.

How to make your Mac work better? Yes, but no. Here’s what Mac users prefer to read about on our site. The results of a little data collection are revealing.

First, let me start by saying that we write about what interests us first, assuming that it will interest many Mac users. We probably do OK but it’s rather arrogant on our part to determine what everyone else wants to read.

We have a staff of four; all with surprisingly different Mac experience. I’ve been using Macs since the original 128k version in early 1984. Jack is the newest and a former Windows addict (he’s now recovering).

Alex is our most opinionated and self absorbed Mac user (aren’t we all?), and Bambi loves Mac things that work well, don’t cause problems, and cost less.

Second, we write not only about what interests us, as a collective group, but try to bring to your attention items of a specific and general sense but fully about Macs, Apple, applications, tips, opinions (and we label them as such), Microsoft, and anything else that “just seems to fit.”

As to whether our readers, you Mac users, really like what we write about… well, that’s only evidenced by return visits, comments (good and bad), and total visitors to the site.

Surprisingly, many of our Mac readers show an interest in articles, news, comments, reviews in a way different than we’d expect.

The Top 10 List
Over the past five months what do you suppose would be the most popular article we’ve presented to you? Scandal at Apple? Microsoft vs. Apple?

Remarkably, no. Those things interest Mac users, but what appears to be on most readers lists are articles about the Mac, Mac utilities, Mac applications, and a little bit of controversy.

Case in point, Number 10
A shoot out. We love those. This time it was Dell’s Precision Workstation vs. the then brand new dual 2.5 ghz CPU PowerMac G5. Do I need to tell you who won?

Click Here to find out how.

Number 9
Just barely making the list is “Free Mac Apps That Do Much More Than You Expect.” It was a quick list of seldom touted but excellent freeware that really is better than expected.

Click Here to read for yourself.

Number 8
What’s your favorite browser? Safari? Usually. But the Mac platform has plenty of good browsers to we pointed out what was good and not so good and downright bad.

Number 7
“The Best Digital Camera Ever For The Macintosh.” Poor Bambi. She bought her first digital SLR, a Canon. And she had to share her excitement with everyone else.

Excitement was such that I bought one, too. She was right. Click Here to find out which camera and why it’s so good.

Number 6
This one shot to the Top 10 in nothing flat. “What’s Missing At Macworld And Can You Spot It?”

Yeah, that’s a come on title for an article but there’s times when things that are missing tell their own story, right? Click Here for the list.

Number 5
“New iMac. Bargain Power Or Crippled And Weak Computer Toy?” This was a Point-Counterpoint with me and Jack Miller.

Lots of folks flamed Jack and he deserved it. Based on Apple’s recent earnings, the iMac is doing fine. Click Here to read about the house that Jack couldn’t build.

That’s the bottom six of the Top 10. Wait. There’s more. But I couldn’t squeeze them all into a single page. Click Here for Page 2 and the Top 4.

The folks at Mac360 have a few domains for sale. If you've ever dreamed of setting up and running your own site about Apple, the Mac, iPods or the iPhone, this is a great way to get started.
