Thin Is Really In: 1,000 Songs in iPod nano.

What’s going to be hot this holiday season? iPods. iPods. Oh, and iPods. Maybe iTunes. iTunes Music Store, too. And Apple. Plus Macs. Apple intros the super small iPod nano.

Just when Creative thought it was safe to go back in the water (new patent in hand), Apple shows why they’re Numero Uno in music.

iPod nano. It’s an iPod made smaller. Then made smaller again. Oh, iPod nano is not an iPod shuffle.

It’s a full featured iPod in two flavors. A 2 gigabyte model that holds 500 songs, and a 4 gigabyte model that holds 1,000 songs.

Goodbye iPod mini. It’s now iPod clunky. Or, iPod brick. or iPod lump-of-coal-in-your-pocket when compared to the iPod nano.

iPod mini is sooooo last July. iPod nano is cute, small, oh, and it comes with a color screen. Color. As in, ‘more than black and white.’

The new iPod nano is sure to set Bill Gate’s hair on fire, as the old line of iPods managed to get about 70-percent of the music player market.

Did I mention that it’s small? This little doo-hickey is about the thickness of a #2 pencil. It looks just like the regular white iPod (hard drive version).

The back is metal, the front is white plastic. The familiar Click Wheel is right where you’d expect it. So is the color screen.

The difference is that the iPod nano is small. Actually, it’s smaller than small. If you have a fat thumb, it’s about that small. Uh, big.

That little color screen gets put to big use, too, because now iTunes will carry over photos, podcasts, AND color album art so you can stare at an impossibly small screen at littler than little art (in color, though).

This little bug weighs in at only 1.5 ounces. Not 15. Not 2. But only 1.5 ounces and only 3.5 inches long.

Battery life has been increased to 14 hours and has the standard USB connector (same as previous iPods) which works with the Dock.

For those of us early adopters who managed to squeeze room out of a credit card to get all the way up to 3,000 songs in a pocket, the iPod nano ONLY holds 1,000 songs.

1,000 songs is about three days of listening. That’s 24 hours a day. For three days. Not shabby.

Without question you’ll be hearing more about the iPod nano, iTunes 5.0, and the new iTunes cell phone.

Trust me. This will be a hot selling season for Apple. Oh, expect a few crowds at the Apple Store for the next few weeks.
