Use Amadeus To Record And Edit Sound On A Mac

Audio RecordingI’m an audio buff and have more than my share of audio editing and sound conversion utilities on my Mac.

Sure, Garageband is good, and priced right, but there are times when you just need a quick audio recording or conversion or filter or edit. The lesser know but highly capable Amadeus Pro is my Mac audio utility of choice.

We apply the term Swiss Army Knife to any utility that MacGuyver couldn’t live without; utilities or tools with multiple functions, not perfect but completely satisfactory for many different jobs.

Amadeus Pro is one of a handful of such audio recording, editing, and effects tools for Mac users.

First, Amadeus is a multi-track editor. So is Garageband; of sorts. Each track has independent controls. Amadeus handles a variety of audio files that Garageband cannot, including Ogg Vorbis and many others.

It also handles MP3 files, AAC (MP4) files, Apple Lossless, standard AIFF, wave and others. One feature you’re sure to like is the ability to export a file as an iPhone ringtone.

Audio is often about editing, special effects, and filtering. Amadeus does all three with simple, elegant, Mac-like aplomb. Audio wave tracks are big, easy to edit and select. Once selected, audio can be enhanced with a variety of Apple’s built-in Mac OS X effects, or others included in Amadeus.

Macophile audiophiles know what it means to repair audio files, whether they’re recordings from vinyl records, audio tape, or CDs. Amadeus has a repair center feature which lets you find problem areas in the sound file wave track, and apply filters, de-noising functions, and more to clean up the sound.

Even bad microphone recordings can be enhanced to sound better than the original. Amadeus handles Apple’s Audio Unit as well as VST plug-ins, which make this Swiss Army Knife utility even more valuable for the audio pro, or pro wannabe.

Pro? Amadeus also features sonograms or spectrum analyses functions, if you’re into the physical look and physics of sound waves.

Equalizers? Got ‘em. Burn audio straight to a CD? Can do. Split recordings or add multiple tracks to a two track recording? Certainly. Amadeus Pro even records specific actions so you can apply functions and features with one click, rather than with many clicks.

There are many very competent audio tools available for Mac users in the 21st century. Garageband comes with each new Mac and is superb at recording multiple tracks of instruments or voice.

For those extra touches that pro users know and love, Amadeus Pro carries the Swiss Army Knife reputation proudly. Highly recommended.
