VoodooPad Makes Your Mac Do More With Less Work

VoodooSome Mac utilities are purely of the one trick pony genre. Calculator? It calculates. TextEdit? Great for simple text documents, not so much for notetakers. There’s no organizational capability. It does what it does and not much more.

VoodooPad is a magical application. It’s both simple and complex. Easy to use but packed with features. A single purpose notetaker, yet so flexible it wraps itself around your organizational style, so it’s not just notes. VoodooPad is sufficiently magical that it does more than the sum of the parts.

Complaint

Let me get the negative over with as quickly as possible. VoodooPad is a funky, strangely inappropriate, and somewhat maligned name which carries the mystery of magic as a transparent cover over the danger of the hidden and hurtful black arts.

If the VoodooPad name bothers you, figure out a way to get around it, because there’s much more inside this handy application than meets the eye. You want the tool to do the job. Does it matter much what it’s called?

What’s Voodoo Do?

Let the fun begin. VoodooPad is a Mac application where you can write down your notes, thoughts, ideas, lists. Easy, right? Plenty of Mac apps and utilities do that.

VoodooPad also holds images, folders, files, URLs, PDFs, just like any decent Mac organizer. With me so far? There’s more. Since VoodooPad holds all these things, the search utility brings them all back to life.

Voodoo Features

Instead of a simple notetaker, VoodooPad can be an organizer, too, complete with multiple Tabs for multiple pages. It will hold gigabytes of data, including large documents.

Embedding is all the rage in the 21st century, and VoodooPad holds, stores, saves, and retrieves with a click everything from photos to MP3s, PDFs to Word documents.

Creative folks love flexibility. VoodooPad uses palettes to display all your pieces of notes. A preference pane can set up custom shortcuts. VoodooPad documents can be merged together to form a larger document.

Text Me In The Morning

No application that focuses on note taking is worthy without being able to handle text styling. VoodooPad does it from the menubar or a floating palette.

Set up categories as you need them. Make lists with bullet points. Create a link from one VoodooPad document to another. Search everything from within VoodooPad or use Spotlight.

To communicate your specific voodoo to others, export your notes or documents as HTML pages to be visible by the rest of the world. Or, just export in eight different formats from Word to RTF or text and more.

Focus? Use full screen editing (called distraction free by others). Simple? Drag and drop items into VoodooPad just like a Mac organizer. The Clippings Folder makes it easy to save and reuse snippets of text.

See? From a simple note taker to a more complex, useful, flexible document and thinking organizer is like, well, magic. VoodooPad Lite is free. The regular version has a price tag, but does all the above and more.
