A friend has sent you a link to the following article: http://mac360.com/index.php/mac360/comments/1236/ The internet has become the town hall, the village voice for the global village. Even Apple’s head honcho, Steve Jobs, has a blog. Well, sorta. It’s Apple’s one way street to their view of life as it ought to be. Most of us who are involved in technology watching would agree that few consumer electronics companies are as secretive and tight lipped as Apple, Inc. See? I didn’t call Apple a computer company, and I managed to keep computer out of the title. Apple is changing. So is Steve Jobs. I can tell by reading one of his blogs. The first Steve Jobs web log, the blog for the rest of us, is the near daily insight from Cupertino’s most famous fake, the Fake Steve Jobs. The real Steve Jobs is not so open with written insights, but there are cracks in the carefully crafted wall. Well, maybe not so much cracks as it is another view of Apple that Apple, and Steve Jobs, wants us to see. I call it the Real Steve Jobs blog. The first installment was an unprecedented opinion of what the music industry should do with digital rights management (DRM), Steve’s now famous Thoughts on Music. In summary, Steve blogged that DRM was hurting growth, Apple would drop DRM if the music industry would. Music giant EMI called what many thought to be Steve’s bluff, and Apple obliged by cutting a deal to drop DRM from EMI’s music on iTunes Store. Wait a minute. Did you catch that? ”Steve blogged...” OK, it’s not an official company or personal web log, penned by His Steveness, but it’s beginning to look as though we’ll get regular doses of opinions from Apple’s rock star CEO. {embed="360adserver/content_rectangle"}Recently, Apple has been banged about by the Green folks, who complain bitterly and often inaccurately, that Apple is not an environmentall friendly technology company. Steve Jobs says it just ain’t so, and he said so in his latest official blog entry in what is becoming his unofficial blog. This time it’s A Greener Apple which gives us more insight into Steve’s mind. Or not. In a blog-like entry which appears more like a public relations press release than a slice of Steve Jobs’ personal view, Apple pokes at the company’s detractors, those who would deface Mighty Apple, Inc.™ to push an agenda, all the while ignoring the facts of environmental life. Steve, via Apple’s PR flacks, pens an answer, a status, and a future roadmap that can only embarass the elite Green Republican Guard, as well as Dell, Gateway, HP, and Lenovo, who, as everyone else knows, are the really big techno polluters of our age. The main issue here isn’t Apple’s greeness, or the statistical lack of greenness by competitors, or the lack of factness by the green factions of the Green Brigade. It’s that Steve Jobs is talking to us and addressing issues important to Apple. Digital rights management and Apple’s role in creating a better environment. What’s next on his agenda? Will we read regular POVs whenever a serious issue arises which Steve cannot fix it behind the scenes and resorts to being the wizard who steps out from behind the green curtain? This new voice we’re reading in these unofficial blog entries clearly is the shape of things to come. Oh, one more question. Which blog do you prefer? The Real Steve Jobs, or the Fake Steve Jobs?
