Safari reigns but drops in usage. Beat Mac spyware before it starts.
Few Mac applications are closer to our hearts than email and browsing. The new Firefox now has a healthy following, Mac and Windows. Is Apple shortchanging Mac customers? Who's watching what you do on your own Mac?

Mozilla releases new Firefox. Is it new? Is it ready? What's the trend?
The trend is upward for Firefox, the Mozilla Foundation's hot new browser for Mac and Windows users. The latest release provides a few goodies, more stability, and more promise than delivery.

Profits are important. How much gouging can users take from Apple?
A trend seems to be developing in the halls of Apple's Cupertino, CA campus. They're rolling in money. Apple has so much cash they don't even know what to do with it. Except nickle and dime to death the Apple faithful.

Some good, some not so good, some great, some tough decisions.
If you're a Mac or iPod fan you've got to be happy these days. Apple seems to be doing everything right. Mac OS X. iMac. Mac mini. New iPods. Here's my list of OTHER little things that don't make big headlines.

Just look at what Windows users have to put up with. Spyware lawsuits?
You're a Mac user. Count your blessings. For now. There's not much "spyware" among Mac applications. Yet. What happens when you find one and expose it to the public? You just might face a lawsuit. Here's what happens in the Windows world.

Your Mac is secure from outside. How about inside? Who's phoning home?
Mac OS X is about as secure as a desktop OS can get and Mac users report few problems. That is, problems with applications trying to break in. What about those applications on your Mac that "phone home" and send data from your Mac to who knows where? It happens more than you know.

Fortune's list is out. Apple ranks high. Dell higher. CEO spits venom.
Fortune Magazine is the great keeper of The Business Lists; those lists we like to read about who's #1, who's best, who's worst, who's most innovative. There's enough lists to satisfy nearly everyone. Of the latest, Dell finally has a #1 slot. Are they gracious and humble? Nope. Dell's CEO slams Apple again.

AppleScript is cool technology. Not cool enough, easy enough to use.
I've used AppleScript for years, either my own, good freebies, some shareware. Some AppleScripts are so useful to my Mac I can't imagine not having them. Looking around, there's not much in the way of AppleScripts available on Mac OS X; free or otherwise.

Mac users opinions on Windows users, maps on Mac, Mac purchases.
One of my jobs as resident Mac blonde is to sort through the email and comments each week. Opinions are second nature to Internet users; Windows switchers, free Mac applications, how many Macs you've owned, and Google Maps top the list.

Do you use Yahoo Maps? No more. Google your map on a Mac in one click.
I like Yahoo Maps. It's a nifty way to print out directions using both a turn-by-turn and a map. You can send an email link and let others print out directions to a particular location. Typing in the address is the pain. Google now has a map, too. This Mac utility makes directions and maps one click. No typing.

The list of reasons is long and ugly and pretty much human nature.
I like Walt Mossberg of the Wall Street Journal. He treats Apple and the Mac fairly. He's critical of Cupertino from time to time (aren't we all?) and praises OS X, the iPod, Macs, including the mini. What's his list of reasons why Windows users won't switch to Mac?

How many? This year? Last Year? All total? How many did you buy?
Last week someone asked me how many Macs I've had? It took a few minutes to add them up. I counted those I've bought for me, for my kids. All total about 20. How about you? How many Macs? How many iPods? Take the poll and check the numbers.
