Revealed: What Mac Users Like To Read About Macs.

Continued from Page 1…

Number 4
OK, sometimes there’s fluff and it just strikes a chord. “Microsoft’s Secret Plan To Defeat iPod, iTMS, OS X.” It wasn’t much of a secret since Microsoft sort of announced what they were doing.

Secret and Free are two words that catch a lot of attention with readers. I’m sure Microsoft has a plan of some sort to defend their turf. They’re just not doing a good job of it. Click Here to read more, or read on.

Number 3
Ah, we love our email, don’t we? We all have favorite email programs (past and present). I remember the simplicity of the first Eudora for the Mac. That being said, “The Best Email Program On The Planet” came in at #4 of the most popular of all our articles.

With good reason.
Click Here to find out. Hint. It’s not from Apple.

Number 2
More dear to Mac users than email is browser choice. I found a new one that’s better than Safari and Firefox.

When I told Mac readers why I dumped Safari and Firefox, I got more than a few flames.Click Here for the dirty details.

It’s still the best browser, Mac or Windows.

Number 1
This one is far and away the most popular article we’ve ever done and it surprised all of us. It just shows to go you, you never know what John Q Public will do. Mostly.

It also proves a theory we’ve been tossing around here (between ourselves, but I’ll go public with it). Mac users love those Mac utilities that make life better on the Mac.

That’s why “The Top 7 Mac Power Utilities You Can’t Live Without” is Number One. Click Here for the full list and a chance to tell others what you think.

Since that was far and away the Number One choice among all of the nearly 250 articles we’ve written in the past few months, it points out what may be the coolest new feature in Mac OS X “Tiger.”

Widgets.

Steve Jobs demonstrated a handful of cute widget utilities during his Macworld Expo keynote address. Within a few months after Tiger ships (sometime this year) you’ll start to see dozens and dozens of nifty neato “widget” utilities pop up on the Mac screen.

Why? We love utilities and we love what works and we love making our Macs, well, personal. Somehow we also seem to love figuring out four ways to do the same thing and then settling in on the best.

What say you? What do you like to read? What do you prefer not to read? What gets you coming back for more? What gets in your shorts? Got an opinion you’d like to share with other Mac users? Click on the Comments link below.

friday update As we move into 2005 we’ll focus even more attention on Reviews, Tips, and How-to, and a little less on the “Mac news” of the day (there’s a dozen sites doing that already). Commentary and Opinion and Perspective? Yeah, we’ll continue to sprinkle that in here and there.
