Just when you thought Apple was becoming the most boring rich tech company in the country—no new Macs, no OS X Snow Leopard, no Steve Jobs—Safari (again) becomes the fastest browser on the planet, Mac or Windows.
How fast is fast? Apple’s PR trumpet says it’s 30 times faster than Internet Explorer on Windows. So is my grandmother. If you don’t mind living a little dangerously, Safari 4 has so much speed you’ll even be reading faster.
2009 hasn’t been a barn burning year for Apple. So far. Macworld, the last Mac expo.... (excerpted).

The new UI for Safari 4 is bad. It’s something that would come out of Microsoft R&D. Please ask Apple to follow their own UI guidelines; and for God’s sake, put the tabs back where they belong—somehow they ended up in the title bar.

I like this Safari, maybe more than any other since the first. The new tabs will take some getting used to because they’re not where I expect them to be. Despite a few other features, the two that I like the most are History and Speed. I thought Comcast had doubled my bandwidth. The “close window” tab is a little odd since it doesn’t show up until you mouse over, but that’s a behavioral nit. I can’t figure out how to “pin” a web site on the Top Sites page.
Otherwise, this may be the only new stuff from Apple until summer.

Bambi, you’re back!!! But will you stay? Please? For awhile? It’s not that we don’t like everyone else around here, but it’s like they’re government workers or something. We need some blonde tabasco!!

I dig your writing style. Always makes me chuckle. I also dig Safari 4.
Thanks!

I’m loving this new Safari. It’s blazing fast, easy on the eyes, and, for me at least, seems stable. No crashes to report. I especially like the new tabs. It’s easier to see the tabs when there are multiple browser windows open. Nice touch. I miss the blue progress bar in the URL window, but Safari is so fast it’s almost a non issue.
Good job, Apple.
