How To Make A Movie With Apple’s Final Cut Express.

Final CutApple did it again and packaged an incredibly powerful software application into an affordable package.

Sorry, Windows users. There’s nothing quite like Final Cut Express on a PC. It’s Mac only.

Apple has a high end video and audio production suite called Final Cut Studio which sells for a whopping $1,299. That price tag is tiny when you begin looking at the professional level applications inside. Video. Audio. Color. Compression. Digital effects.

For the rest of us, Apple packages most of what is in Final Cut Pro.... (excerpted).

We use Final Cut express to make all our videos. It’s cheap, and it gets the job done. Not to mention the new HD options.

Final Cut and Imovie08 will only work with AVCHD format on the new INTEL apple computers. I was advised by apple that imovie08 was specifically written for Intel computers. They advised for G5 to copy AVCHD file and use Imovie HD. This doe not work as there are 3 files involved.
‘‘VOLTAICHD’’ will allow a G5 computer to import AVCHD files and they are translated into apple codec(which imovie08 does).
What is odd is that imovie 08 will not allow a 16:9 ratio film to be published at 1920x1080. It only allows for 956x564 LARGE size.
(Also a manual would help!).
Does ‘FINAL CUT EXPRESS allow a 1920x1080 ouput?
I tried a small film via above and got a resonable result but NOT as good as a direct AVCHD burn to DVD-R disc via camera software and playback via blue-ray player on HD TV.
The other problem is that AVCHD codec is vERY compressed and translation into apple codex enlarges the file size x12.
Working in the original codec would be more efficient.
Does FC Express keep the original .MTS codec?

I just bought this from the Mac Store, I can’t wait to get it and start learning how to use it. I just replaced my old Cannon cam corder that died on me with a Sony handy cam “dcr-sr45” and it cost me some coin! It has a hard drive, no more “DVC tapes!” Plus the Sony takes the new memory stick duo. The hard drive on my new Sony is 30 gigs, I also bought the six hour extended battery for it. I will comment again on this forum after I get my Final Cut Express and play around with it for a couple of weeks.

Can’t wait, Can’t wait! I HATE WAITING!!
