It’s Alive! The Best Free Text Editor For Mac Users

WranglerI was talking on the phone this morning with Kate MacKenzie and made the mistake of asking, “What’s new?”

20 minutes later—after hearing about that idiot co-worker, this nosey relative, two rude waiters, a dropped iPhone, and a cop chasing a guy on the subway, all I could remember is, “Did you know TextWrangler is at version 3.0?” Simultaneously, Kate and I both said, “I thought TextWrangler was discontinued.” It’s not. It’s alive.

At version 3.0 there may not be a need to buy a commercial text editor. Ever..... (excerpted).

I use textWrangler for a while now. I think it is a great text editor and the price is nice as well. Maybe it is because my needs are not the those of an expert. I use it mostly for text editing html and css. thanks to http://pixobebo.com/ for pointing it out.

What’s wrong with emacs or vi on your Mac? They’re free and very capable. TextWrangler is for amateurs.

I gotta get out more. I thought Text Wrangler was dead. I wonder why they added so many features to a free editor?

Dude, TextMate is good, but it’s not free. You’ll be missing a pocket full of Euros when you but TextMate.

Text editors are a dime a dozen. A text editor that you can learn to use will usually cost money.

I think textmate is the nicest lightweight freebee on the Mac.

I would also recommend checking out Komodo edit, it’s the nicest free, a-platform, full-featured editor that I have seen!
