Stopping Junk Mail. How Can You Beat Spam?

SpamSome Mac users get hundreds of junk mail messages each day (me). The problem is worse than ever and there’s no end in sight.

How many junk messages do you get each day? How do you stop spam? What are some the worst messages?

My original intent was to share some of the crazier and more ridiculous junk mail messages I’ve received recently. So, I kept less than two days worth of junk mail. Almost 500 messages in all.

Then, I thought it would be beneficial to see how.... (excerpted).

I’m listening Alexis! Some how some way I have been very very lucky with my Mobile Me mail account for two years now. Yes I get some junk e-mail (I would say about 15 per month). This is the part that pisses me off. The junk I get is disgusting porn and they always come from a “@mail.com account”. I don’t even look at porn! Yes I used to about ten years ago when I was in my early twenties and drinking all the time (I no longer drink alcohol at all).

So I just bounce back the crap but here is the weird part. Sometimes when I bounce this garbage back it comes back stating the mail damon host is unknown. I think someone is spoofing the e-mails. I know a friend who knows how to do that stuff but he would never admit that he is messing with me.

Otherwise I am pretty lucky with not having to deal with spam. I just knocked on my wood computer desk.

I think I know why I have beat the spam crap. I have an alternative hotmail address I use for stuff that I have to have an account for like games or my A.P.C. power supply battery back ups. I never give out my Mobile Me mail account to stuff like that and yes my hotmail gets nailed with spam. I rarely check that e-mail account anyway. Just use it if I loose a password for a website and need password recovery but ever since I purchased 1-password now I don’t forget or loose any passwords. I never let Safari save them anymore.

Well that’s my spam story. Sorry to hear you have so much junk to deal with. Intego used to have a great spam software program that worked for Mobile Me mail accounts, it caught every thing that was spam and put it in a folder in my Mobile Me account but they discontinued that software when leopard came out for some reason.
