Many Mac critics, as well as Mac proponents, say Macs just don’t have enough RAM in the standard, off-the-shelf configuration.
While RAM is considered cheap these days, does Apple put in enough RAM? How much RAM do you have? How about other Mac users? Our “RAM Poll” reveals all…
In the past, a common line of complaint from Mac critics and Mac users alike was the anemic standard RAM available on most new Macs. Nearly everyone agreed that more RAM is better, standard RAM was not enough.
It doesn’t matter whether.... (excerpted).

My Mac Book came with 1 “512” chip and what a joke. A snail could beat my Mac Book at that time. I have upgraded to a single 2 gig chip and now and it rock and rolls.
My Mac Pro 1st generation desktop came with 2 gigs ” 4 512 chips”, not bad but it need much more so I upgraded to four gigs of Ram on my Pro and now it rocks. I might upgrade again in the future but for now four gigs is more than enough.
I refuse to buy Apples Ram or even other upgrades like hard drives simply because Apple over charges for just about everything.
I buy almost all my stuff from O.W.C (other world computing) and save over half of what Apple would charge me for the same hard drive etc.
O.W.C. had a clearance on certified genuine Apple ram (512 chips). I bought two gigs (four more 512 chips to add to the bottom of my empty ram p.c.i. board giving me the four gigs of ram.
The Apple store wanted almost five hundred dollars for the exact same ram, I got the same ram that the Apple store tried to burn me on at O.W.C. for about $150.00.
I honestly think Apple does stuff like this because they know they are going to make another sale off of allot of people who don’t know about the alternatives out there for upgrading.
Don’t get me wrong, I love the Mac and Apple but I disagree in how they do business in certain ways.
I purposely bought my Mac Pro stock knowing I would not be upgrading anything in my Mac Pro from Apple.
