I’m not a professional photographer, but like everyone with a digital camera, iPhoto on my Mac is full of thousands of photos. No, maybe tens of thousands.
iPhoto provides some basic tools for editing and cropping, but they’re useful only one photo at a time. How does a Mac user edit and crop dozens or hundreds of photos? You need a Mac app that does more with fewer clicks.
Click To Crop, Click To Save Time
Click 2 Crop is not a one trick pony. It’s a photo editor that resides between iPhoto’s simplicity and Photoshop Element’s complexity and Photoshop’s expense.
If what you need is to crop a photo, resize a photo, and optimize a photo, Click 2 Crop does that—but with plenty of additional features to make the end result greater than the sum of the parts.
Viewing a few hundred photos in Preview is a tedious effort. It’s easy in iPhoto. Editing, cropping, resizing a few hundred photos in iPhoto is a tedious effort, too.
Click 2 Crop does the editing, but does more.
The process starts off with two panes. Drag and drop an image (or images) onto Click 2 Crop. The left window gives you the editing and cropping tools. Drag the grid to crop. The cropped image is displayed in the right window.
Other tools give additional functions, from changing to black and white or sepia tone to adding text or borders, and adding text to the image.
You have full control over text captions and borders colors and sizes. Additional preferences make it easy to automate your workflow so you can apply crops and edits to one photo after another.
The rotate tool helps to align misaligned images along a precise guideline.
If all you’re after is a quick cropping tool that adds a few photo enhancements here and there, not much. If you’re after more photographic enhancements, Click 2 Crop could benefit from some of OS X’s built in Core Graphic functions.
Changing auto levels, sharpening and adding other effects are handy and can be invoked on the fly.
But OS X has a host of built-in graphic capabilities that Click 2 Crop doesn’t use. It’s truly more of cropping and alignment tool with a few extra photo enhancements built in, than it is a photo editor.
If you’re ready to graduate from iPhoto’s anemic cropping functions, Click 2 Crop is a step up. If you need to go beyond iPhoto’s photo enhancements, Click 2 Crop will leave you wanting more.
