Every Friday should have something free. Free parking. Free beer. Free appetizers. Free babysitting. Mac360 honors Friday Freebies with a handy babysitting app.
Well, it won’t babysit your kids, but it will put a web cam on your Mac’s Desktop. It’s the next best thing to being there. What? No baby cam? Fear not, dear voyeur, turn your Desktop into a photo gallery.
Photos, Videos, Desktop, Oh My!
My Featured Friday Freebies this week come from DEVONtechnologies, Mac app developers who are so extraordinary, so talented, and so prolific they give away free software and expect nothing in return.
Alright, maybe they want your undying gratitude or maybe a Christmas card.
But that’s it. They bask in the satisfaction that you’re truly satisfied with the free treats they give out to Mac users so you’ll feel guilty and buy one of DEVON’s not-so-free commercial apps.
The truth is out there. And now it’s here. But it’s the truth. Does it hurt?
PhotoStickies is one of DEVON’s freebie apps that puts little digital floating Post-It Notes-like photos on your Desktop. It’s an easy way to view favorite photos or to be reminded of your boyfriend, girlfriend, spouse or kids, the boss you really, really hate, or the barista from Starbucks on the corner that you’re stalking this week.
Stalkers need photos for inspiration.
Not only will PhotoStickies float photos across your Mac’s Desktop, you can also use it to display web cam images.
Streaming web cam images can be recorded for later viewing. Find new web cams from all over the world. Even add effects to your PhotoStickies photos.
So, why is such a clever, useful, hypnotic application free?
Why is Lady Gaga a 21st century incarnation of Elton John, himself a late 20th century incarnation of the early 20th century Liberace?
Mine is not to reason why. I’m merely here on this planet to discover and reveal the secrets of Friday Freebies for all Mac users. That, and spawn little females who climb curtains, irritate male relatives, and scare neighbor’s dogs who dare spread ‘em and poop on my freshly cut suburban dwelling soccer mom lawn without prior written consent.
I like the idea of web cams on my Mac’s Desktop.
They’re good for tracking where kids may have disappeared, what babysitters do after the kids are put to bed, and they’re a handy way to check on the weather in Traverse City, Michigan when you’re feeling blue about where you live.
You never thought that an app named PhotoStickies could do so much to improve your life, huh?
