There is something about the nature of time that intrigues me. Maybe it’s the precision. Maybe it’s an innate desire to become more efficient. To use time better. To be more productive.
Whatever it is, I like to time whatever I do—perhaps racing against some inherent internal clock. How do I massage that desire? With timers on my Mac that time what I do and when.
Timing Tasks For Fun & Profit
A good sense of timing isn’t easy to come by. Some say you either have it or you don’t. If you don’t, you can fake like you do by using a multi-tasking timer on your Mac.
Enter the slick and elegant Mac app, Task Timer.
It times whatever you want it to, from beginning to end.
It’s a multi-tasking timer that’s perfect for managing many tasks, each of which can be a part of a number of projects. At the basic level, Task Timer lets you set up a task to be timed.
Set the task, start the timer when you work on that task. Stop the timer when you’re done.
Simple enough so far, right?
Task Timer lets you create a task with a click. After that, timing the task is a matter of selecting the task and clicking the Start Timer icon in the Toolbar.
If you work on a task for 30-minutes, then decide to switch to another task, click the Stop Timer button in the Toolbar.
That stops the task timing, but doesn’t delete the task.
When you come back to the task later, the timer doesn’t start over, but begins where you left off, making it easy to track multi-segment tasks over many periods of time.
Exceptions are the rule. Modify the start time as you need, add comments to each timed event. Task Timer comes with straightforward reports based on date ranges so you can track and report time for specific projects.
There’s no practical limit to the number of projects or tasks. Reports can be exported to PDF, or CSV, tab delimited, or Excel formats. Task Timer even syncs with a companion iPhone version.
Task Timer is straightforward to set up and use to time tasks and save them into projects, which totals all the time, just as you would expect. Elegant and nicely done.
