Sometimes I wonder if Mac society is moving toward finding solutions to problems that don’t really exist. How many ways can you manage tasks or a to-do list on your Mac?
Plenty. Plenty as in twenty eleven different ways, starting with iCal. Here’s a new one that marries a handy task and to-do list with the popular and free Evernote system. It’s another way to keeps lists synced between Mac and iPhone.
Piggy Back On Evernote
What’s a task or to-do item other than a very simple, specific note. Evernote does notes on Mac, PC, iPhone, Android. Someone sat there in Macland and said, “Hey, what if I use Evernote for tasks and to-do items?”
If necessity is the mother of invention, someone decided we all needed another task and to-do manager.
That’s what OnlyTasks does. It turns Evernote into a multi-platform to-do list manager.
Alright, so what’s all the noise about Evernote. Dig into my primer on the luscious goodness of a free mini-word processor, a note taker, that runs on your Mac or PC or any number of iDevices.
OnlyTasks added to Evernote equals a hybrid beast that does tasks and to-do items. Why? If for no other reason because, if it can be done, someone will try to do it. This time, in Spanish.
What you get is a handy and attractive task manager and to-do list maker (in your choice of languages, of course) that does a Vulcan mind meld with Evernote.
All the tasks or to-do’s you make become single entry notes in Evernote.
Clever, huh? And priced right. Evernote is ubiquitous and cross platform.
OnlyTasks piggybacks on Evernote to give you a decent task manager and to-do list maker.
Here’s the problem. OnlyTasks reinvents the wheel. There are a few dozen task managers and to-do list makers for the Mac, many of which are cross platform, or Mac to iPhone.
OnlyTasks is donationware, while Evernote is commercial, it also has a free version with a few limitations. It’s a clever idea to piggy back on another service. But there are plenty of other task managers and to-do list makers around.
