Everyone loves diagrams and flow charts, right? I was showing one to a colleague last week and 10 minutes into the show and tell his eyes had glazed over.
How can diagrams and flow charts be so boring? Too much detail. Too many icons. Too many boxes. There must be a better, simpler, truly Mac-like way to diagram. What we need is a diagram app for the masses.
Diagram With Drag And Drop
Diagrams help us to think about our processes and that’s a good thing. Unfortunately, most diagrams get bogged down in minutiae and quickly lose our attention.
Diagrammix is a Mac app that does diagrams and flow charts the old fashioned way. Simple.
Think about what you want and need in a diagram. Boxes. Lines to boxes. Some color to differentiate boxes.
The option to drop in some text so you can understand what’s what. And the ability to save the diagram or flow chart so others can view it.
That’s Diagrammix. It doesn’t get easier. Start up is dead simple.
You’re not stuck with load of palettes and tools that are difficult to understand. Diagrammix starts with templates. Choose Funny (home use) or Gradient (business use).
After that, it’s pretty much drag and drop. Drag boxes or shapes onto the diagram screen, add a label, add a line to describe the flow, change colors as needed.
Drag the images and shapes around the screen and arrange according to your needs. Ditto for lines and text. Number each shape.
Double clicking each element reveals the Connector Tool (to connect it to another element), the Text Tool, and the Color Gradient Palette.
The Text element works like a mini-word processor so you can change font, justification, even autosize the text to fit a box or area.
The Path Point Tool adds zig zags and smooth turns to the connector (makes it look pretty on screen).
You can even add text to a Connector so anyone reading your diagram can make perfect sense of each element, what it does, where it goes, and why it’s there.
That’s it. We’re done. It’s eminently affordable and comes with a 15-day trial.
Capture The Magic
Diagrammix has one purpose when it comes to diagram and flow chart creation. Simplicity. After all, a highly complex tool is less likely to be used if no one can figure out all the intricacies of the tool palette. Even copy and paste works as you expect in any Mac document.
Add too much to the diagram and people quickly lose attention. The magic is in the simplicity, ease of use, and instant ability to communicate a diagram or flow. How about the manual? Diagrammix has one long web page with all the options you need to know. Simple. Elegant. Useful. Instantly understandable.
