Color me hungry for some eye candy. You know the kind. Cheap, easy, functional, colorful.
Today’s big cheap find is a new way for you to tell the time, check the calendar, and customize the whole mess on your Mac so it matches your style, your mood, and your budget. Yeah, it’s just a clock. But it’s a clock that’s easier and funner to use than the Menubar clock.
Add Some Zing And Pizazz To The Time
The generations they are a changing. Only people over 30 wear watches, right? To find out the time we use our smart phones (when I say we, I mean those of us over 30 who have the heart and soul of the under 30 crowd).
When we’re on our Macs we tell time by looking at the Mac’s Menubar.
There it is, in black and white. The time. And, if you configure the Time and Date properly (so you don’t have to click the time to get the date), the date.
What’s not to like about that arrangement? It’s free. Apple ships the Menubar (with Date and Time) with every Mac. Well, what’s wrong is that it’s oh so ugly and doesn’t tell all that much.
Enter Dock Clock Candy
Dock Clock is a dirt cheap Mac app that tells the time. In the Dock. And elsewhere on your Mac screen.
The handy part about Dock Clock is the visual design esthetic (a 21st century way of saying it’s cool looking). Yes, the time is in the Dock. But a large, colorful, more useful clock can be placed elsewhere on the screen.
Like a good old fashioned analog watch with real hour, minute, and second hands, the Dock Clock escapes from the Dock and gives you the digital time in the clock face. Click it and you get the date.
So, the time and date show up in the Dock icon.
And, you can change the size of the clock and the date display. And, you can move it out of the way or let it float on screen.
All total, Dock Clock has almost two dozen different clock designs, and nearly a dozen calendar styles.
Choose one to match your mood or your style.
Set the Dock Clock for 12 hour or 24 hour display, even let the clock float on top over everything on your Mac’s screen (that’s for time-aholics). You’ll spend the same amount on a six-pack of diet cola, so Dock Clock is sugar cheap, but twice as sweet.
The only negative is that Dock Clock is a Mac App Store app, so there’s no trial before you buy.
