Unfortunately, information follows us wherever we go. Radio, TV, iPhone, Mac. What we have are tools, apps that help us adapt to the deluge of information so we can better organize the day’s news. Mac and PC users on the move love Read It Later and Instapaper.
Now Mac users have an elegant app that does both.
Efficiency Is The New Game In Town
The last time I checked there were still only 24 hours in a day, but it seems the flow of information requires more time to manage.
There was a day when we got news from a daily newspaper, a 30-minute TV news show, the radio, and a magazine or two.
Those days are long gone as we’ve hitched a ride on the information superhighway.
So far, the road is bumpy and the speed seems to be increasing. Thanks to apps like Read It Later and Instapaper and others, we can time shift information.
ReadNow is one of the more elegant Mac apps to combine multiple functions to a single app. You get access to both your Instapaper and Reader It Later accounts in one location. Think of it as a one stop RSS-like reader for news and information you’ve already selected.
Does this look familiar?
ReadNow looks and feels like a typical RSS reader, but all it’s doing is pulling content from your Instapaper or Read It Later accounts.
That means you’re using a single app to manage the content from two apps, and consolidating your selected news items in one location.
I find it easy to setup and use (you’ll just need account information). My iPhone has Instapaper and my wife’s iPhone has Read It Later.
It syncs articles from both accounts, and still gives you options to add, archive, edit, move, like or delete selections.
Select fonts and size, margins and line spacing, and save articles in a ReadNow folder. Even better are added tools to share articles on Twitter, Facebook, Evernote, email and more, and shorten links.
Whatever we select throughout the course of the day shows up on the family Mac using ReadNow.
You’ll spend more money on a hot beverage at Starbucks than on ReadNow, but you’ll gain time every day and keep yourself informed.
