If you remember the right keystrokes screen images are a few clicks away. QuickTime Player X has a screen recording function built in to your Mac already. In between the expensive do-everything apps, and free, is a handy easy-to-use screen capture tool that does video.
Snagging A Quick And Dirty Screen Video
What I like about the screen capture app Snagit is the fit. It does more than Screeny but it’s not as complex as Camtasia.
Grab the entire Mac Desktop, an area, a window, even a scrolling window, and use a hotkey to get it done.
Snagit also has a delayed capture function that counts down to the capture moment to give you time to get prepared before recording or capture begins.
This is a great app to create a how-to video using your Mac’s screen.
Capture the screen or a section of the screen and save it as an MPEG 4 video. Once saved they’re ready to upload to Facebook, YouTube, Screencast.com, Twitter, FTP, or send via email.
Going a little beyond screen capture, Snagit also gives you image enhancements.
Stamps can be dropped onto static screen captures (like balloons or clouds). Color filters include gray scale, sepia tone, and more.
Images can be rotated and skewed. Even change the border color or background color of a screen capture.
For quick screen and image captures, Snagit is spot on. It doesn’t edit video the way Camtasia can. But it has more useful features than Screeny. And it’s priced in between.
