The latest tech nonsense comes from a quote in an article by a team of writers (no one wanted full responsibility) from Mercury News in San Jose, CA (a hotbed of American tech).
Apple is doomed. Again.
Emotional Lust, Analytic Stupidity
The best quote came from Global Equities analyst Trip Chowdry who firmly declared, ‘The best is over for Apple. iPad Mini is playing catch up to Google Android, probably will have a mediocre customer adoption.’
Say what? Yes, Chowdry proudly proclaimed that ‘Innovation at Apple is over.’
Well, that settles it. Let’s all put our iPhones, iPads, and Macs on eBay and join the Google army of cheap plastic knockoffs, and hand over all our private information while we’re at it.
What amazes me about companies like Global Equities is their ability to hire people without a shred of common sense, or a micron of understanding of what they supposedly analyze.
So, Apple is playing catch up? To Google? How so? Google had a 7-inch tablet before Apple had a 7-inch tablet, and that constitutes catch up? Will Google catch up to the iPad’s sales?
They must, because, well, you know– Apple is doomed.
Wait a minute. Where’s Google’s dual cameras in the Nexus 7 tablet? Who is playing catch up now, Tripp? Where are the actual customers who bought Google’s tablet? You won’t see them around. Are they too ashamed? No innovation, huh? Alright, Mister Know-it-all. Name a tablet that’s better than iPad 4? Oh, did you know that Microsoft has announced their own tablet?
It’s almost three years behind the original iPad’s launch date, and it’s version 1.0, while the iPad is hitting version 4. Apple’s $329 price point is just about perfect, which anyone with common sense can figure out (and those who are paid to analyze obviously cannot). At $329 Apple will sell tens of millions of the iPad mini. Google will not sell a similar number of a lower priced Nexus 7 tablet.
At $329, Apple has room to improve the iPad mini, and move last year’s model to a lower pricing tier. That’s called pricing elasticity. And, because Apple will sell tens of millions of iPad mini models to schools, the $329 price tag gives Apple an option to discount to schools and still make money.
Oh, wait. That’s right. Apple is doomed because it knows how to make money on phones and tablets and Google is not doomed because it doesn’t know how to make money?
What’s wrong with this picture, Mister Chowdry?
Now, let me talk about lust. Not iPhone. Not iPad. Not iPad mini. Good old fashioned Mac lust. Have you seen the new iMac? Read Om Malik’s review. Check out the Apple video. The new iMac is truly lustworthy, just like iPad, and iPhone.
If innovation is truly gone at Apple and died with Steve Jobs then why does Apple continue to introduce new products that are, well, you know– innovative? Apple executives have identified what tech pundits and stock analysts have yet to understand.
‘People love their iPads.’
How difficult is that to understand? Apple builds lust-worthy products that customers love to own and use. Who else does it to that degree? Those same customers are not interested in bullet point specification comparisons (number crunchers and pundits love that). They’re interest in what works well for them, does what they expect and more, and provides lasting value.
Hardware specification comparisons are meaningless. For tech pundits and stock analysts to miss that point borders on stupidity.
