Translation apps for the iPhone make it easier to communicate with others while we play tourist (or, they play tourist with us). What if you don’t have an internet connection? How can you translate phrases and words from one language to another?
All you need is the Languages app.
99-cents For 12 Languages Offline
What the Languages app does that’s different than most translation apps is store the most common phrases and words on your iPhone or iPad.
That way, even if you’re traveling and cannot find Wi-Fi or a 3G or 4G connection, Languages can still help you translate.
Using the app is simple. Start typing a few letters and translated words or phrases in the language you select begin to appear.
Type a word in one language and get results from other languages.
Browse through the A to Z index. Magnify the letters with a tap. When searching, swipe to the left to move to the dictionary, and swipe to the right to clear the search.
Select a language from the dictionary list. Pinch to close a language dictionary. Simply tap on a word to copy it.
12 is the number of dictionaries included in Languages.
Dictionaries can be moved around on the shelf with the typical iPhone tap and hold gesture.
Even the gestures themselves are unique. Swipe and see the page fold up accordion style. Of all the translation apps I’ve used on my iPhone, this is the most fun.
