Mac users now have an option to create a video monitoring and surveillance system at home or office with a free app. All you need are video cameras, an internet connection, and something important or valuable to monitor and protect. The app that does the work is free.
Who Monitors The Monitors?
Mac users have plenty of Mac security options, including apps that use the built-in iSight camera to monitor and capture in video or photos anyone who lurks around your Mac.
All you need to get started is a Logitech Alert camera. The Mac app controls and configures the system and manages up to 6 Logitech security cameras.
You can view live video from each camera, and record video in HD resolution. Motion alerts can be setup in each camera which can trigger alerts.
The right camera can also be controlled with pan, tilt and zoom, and videos from each camera can be stored on your Mac.
The Live view lets you see what’s happening in any connected video camera. The Playback view displays previously recorded video clips. A simple calendar gives you access to a timeline of recordings.
Motion Zones can be setup for each camera for area motion detection. If you’re busy on your Mac, pop up windows can be displayed onscreen so you can keep and eye on what’s going on elsewhere.
An internet connection to the Mac means you can view the live video feeds remotely; even from the web. And, there are apps for iPhone, iPad, Android, and BlackBerry devices to monitor the security system remotely.
It’s not much of an issue, but it’s worth noting that Alert Commander requires Logitech Alert cameras. As security system cameras go, they’re not expensive (but not similar to the inexpensive PC cameras), but the price adds up as you add more cameras.
