Jesse and I both coach teams so we’re always on the lookout for anything that will give us an edge up on the competition. If you’re into sports– coaching or playing– here’s a Mac app that can help your team improve.
The Coach’s Clipboard
Those of us who engage in high tech and competitive sports know about the Coach’s Clipboard apps for iPhone and iPad. If it’s round and moves, there’s an app to help coaches coach better.
Coach’s Clipboard is now available on the Mac. Think larger screen. More sports. One price (the iPhone and iPad versions are many at $1.99 each).
What’s it do? It’s a coaching tool for most popular sports. Use it to draw up plays for any of the more than 20 sports included.
Plays can be animated and the speed controlled for easy viewing. Player and text colors can be changed to match different teams (home team vs. away team, for example).
Coach’s Clipboard manages team rosters and makes it easy to substitute players. Plays can be emailed to other coaches or players as a PDF.
Create new plays with a click, or click to reset plays to the default.
In most sports, balls can be attached to players. Plays can contain multiple balls, and objects can be added to plays for emphasis.
As nice as it is to see Coach’s Clipboard available for the Mac, the real bargain is the iPad version (also works on iPhone, but the screen is just too small).
The only negative regarding the Mac version is stability. It seems a little buggy even after being available for a few months.
The iPhone and iPad versions– Coach’s Clipboard and Clipboard for each sport– are the poster child for in-app purchases. If you’re into five or six or more sports, the price can add up quickly.
