Chatting, file sharing, assignments, tasks and responsibilities, and team organization. You can use half a dozen different Mac apps to keep the team functioning, or use a killer app to make it function even better.
Kickoff The Killer App
Think for a moment about all the issues you run into when managing or working for a team of employees or associates. Email, task lists, assignments, project status, file sharing.
It’s a list that seemingly never ends, but is easily managed by using the killer app for small teams– Kickoff.
This multi-tasking app runs on Mac and iPhone and combines real-time chat capability with built-in sharing, and task management for your team.
Chat one-to-one or as a group. Drag and drop to share almost any kind of Mac file. Preview videos and files from any source.
Kickoff uses Quick Look to view files, Notification Center to keep you apprised of who’s doing what, and it even records dictation which can be shared.
The component I appreciate the most is task assignment. Assign tasks to one person in the group, or many, and attach files and comments to each task.
The Mac interface in Kickoff is elegant, straightforward, and displays most of the information you need to keep on top of projects, assignments, and team members.
The iPhone version suffers a bit from the screen real estate shortage, but basic functions are seldom more than a tap away.
Kickoff doesn’t cater to Mac power users as much as it helps Mac users become power users.
It takes dictation, and can read back notes. For both Mac and iPhone, Kickoff uses standard multi-touch gestures for easier navigation.
For the Mac, there’s full screen view to help reduce distractions. The Quick Look preview gives you one a one tap look at most Mac documents or file types.
All your files are stored both online using Amazon S3 and locally on your device. Messages are encrypted between users.
The group chat function works very well and easily displays each member of the group, but I found myself really wanting to hear each team member talk.
Kickoff isn’t inexpensive but it combines so many functions that team members need, that improvements in productivity and communication accuracy are evident right away.
