I don’t claim to understand the business model of free apps, but here’s one iPhone app that absolutely, positively is a bargain. It tracks the gas mileage for your car and reminds you when it needs maintenance.
Fuel Economy, Service Log
Tracking miles drive and gasoline by the gallon to determine gas mileage is an exercise fraught with trial and error. Jesse once claimed her car got 56 miles to the gallon. Math error. It was half that.
For iPhone users, there’s probably no better, easier, faster, cheaper way to track gasoline and mileage that Gas Cubby, the free fuel economy and service log app.
What it does is exactly what you expect and mostly what you want a gasoline and mileage tracking app to do.
Gas Cubby tracks mileage. Simply enter in the current odometer reading on a full tank of gas, then add the miles drive to the next fill up.
Enter the amount of gasoline purchased and Gas Cubby does the gas mileage calculations automatically and instantly.
Gas mileage is useful, of course, but Gas Cubby does something else that’s worth far more than the price of admission (even though it’s Gas Cubby Free).
Service. When does you car need to be serviced? Gas Cubby knows, and will alert you to schedule maintenance.
Not only does it chart miles per gallon, gasoline prices, total gas expenses, but Gas Cubby tracks the car’s service record, service expenses, and gives you timely reminders when service is due.
One Gas Cubby app can handle multiple vehicles, and stores important information– Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), insurance information, license plate number, car details.
Amazingly, the U.S. is not the only place in the world where car owners track distance driven by fuel used, so Gas Cubby also works in the metric system, or units for Canada and the U.K.
There’s also a Gas Cubby app that does a few more tricks and comes with a nominal price tag, but it’s likely that the free version does all you need, and that makes it a terrific bargain.
