My latest photo effects app is long on clever features and short in the price tag department. It may be the most affordable way to add a splash of color to a dull photograph.
Splash That Color!
If there’s one thing we’ve learned about the change from film photography to digital photography it’s that the price-per-photo has dropped to almost nothing.
Today’s digital cameras and camera phones mean we can shoot as many photos as we want and not worry about incurring additional costs.
The problem with shooting so many photos these days is that iPhoto gets stuffed with an extraordinary number of duplicate shots, or many dull photos for every good one.
Splash Colors FX is a 99-cent app from the Mac App Store which does very well what we’d all like our photos to be. Artistic. Colorful. Worthy.
How Splash Colors FX works is rather simple. First, it strips out the color and turns the photo into a black and white version.
Notice how the splash of color turns what is an ordinary image into an attractive, eye-catching photo.
Splash Color FX is simple to setup and use. Drag a photo from iPhoto, and a couple of clicks later it’s artistic.
You can’t get quite the same effects in iPhoto. It isn’t just a matter of a few clicks to create the splash of color on a photo.
Splash Colors FX comes with a few easy to use tools in the right sidebar of the app window.
The brush effects let the original color display through the black and white image. Adjustments for brushes include opacity and blur so you can get creative.
The app features a magnification– zoom in and out– so the paint tools can be placed precisely where you want them on the photo.
Even the brushes can be increased or decreased in size, and colors can also be inverted for another special effect. Edited photos can be sent back to iPhoto, printed, saved, or shared with friends. The tools take only a few minutes to learn, though trial and error is the order of the day to get a truly creative photo from a dull photo.
