A few come with a nominal price tag, but most are free, including the latest from Apple’s new found friend, the other search giant. If what you’re after is a quick look at the weather overlaid on a photo to match, then you’ll appreciate Yahoo! Weather app.
Less Than A Dime A Dozen
Once could easily say that weather apps for iDevices are a dime a dozen. Or, less. Yahoo! Weather is new and gives iPhone users a new spin on weather conditions and forecasts.
The most intriguing new feature is that Yahoo! Weather brings photos to match your location, time of day, and current weather conditions.
Forecasts and conditions are overlaid on top of the photos, of course, but the app has a few options that go beyond just a quick glance.
Swipe vertically down the app for more detailed weather information. Or, swipe horizontally and display weather conditions for different locations.
Photos appear to come from Project Weather on Flickr, but Yahoo! Weather gives you an option to submit photos to the site, too.
One glance or flick gets you weather information details, as well as weather conditions from different cities.
Not only does Yahoo! Weather display current weather information and forecasts, there’s also interactive radar, satellite display, as well as head and wind maps, plus sunrise and sunset for each location.
What’s happening here is that Google has become the enemy. Google’s enemy, of course, is also Yahoo!, so the old adage, the enemy of my enemy is my friend applies here.
Yahoo! has been supplying data to Apple’s iOS platform for years, including sports information for Siri, so I expect we’ll see plenty more Yahoo! apps on the iPhone.
